DX7 QUESTIONS
 

Hey I have been flying planes for a couple years now and have finally gotten the helicopter urge.I am ordering the raptor titan 50 with 401 and good digital servos and the gv1........I have a dx7 and it is my understanding that it works great with both fixed wing and heli! It does have the option for fixed wing or heli when entering a new aircraft does anyone use one? I would also like to know how the hell you get the clicks out of the throttle

If I remember right the only difference between the plane version to heli version of the DX7 is some of the switch locations like D/R dont quote me on that cause it may be a different one. To remove the clicks you just have to remove the back of the TX and theres a metal tang on the back of the stick and most guys just bend it back a little bit to get rid of the clicking

Don't just bend it back. If you do that, I seriously doubt you will be happy with the feel of the stick.

The main differences are switch placement, ratchet on the throttle, and a magnet on the low point of the throttle stick. The magnet keeps the left stick sitting at the low position and prevents a bump from advancing the throttle I suppose.

What you want to do with the ratchet is remove the back cover of the radio and set it aside (leave the wires connected). Then, undo the screws holding the metal ratchet tension piece. The heli version has this same basic item but instead of having notches, it is smooth. By tightening down the two screws, you increase the friction on the stick. For the airplane version of this radio, I flip that metal tensioner around and use the back side of it. You will need to slightly bend it opposite of the natural curve and then reinstall it. Hold the radio and get a feel for the stick, adjust tension to your feel. Smear a slight dab of vaseline on the contact point to keep things feeling smooth.

I didn't have the time to try and play with removing the magnet but it annoys me. My bro has the airplane version and he flies helis with the magnet in there, you can feel it a little if you happen to pump full negative but other than that it feels fine. If you just loosen up on the ratchet, you get a sloppy stick that is way too loose to have a good looking flight imo.

you can always use some heat shrink tubing on the tang then dont tighten it too much and move the stick to get the right feel

I would consider a Aerospire Multigov or CSM RL 20 over the Gv1
Cheaper and better

James suggestion will probably work as well. Personally, i'd just flop the thing around and give it a slight tweak with your hands. Then adjust the screw for tension. I know you will need a slight bit of lubrication on there to keep the thing moving smoothly, not wd-40 or something like that either. Dries up fast and in a day the left stick will feel sticky, not good when you are trying to make small movements. Vaseline /electric grease seems to work good for that.

Am I the only one whose DX7 came with both the ratchet and non-ratchet tension bar thingy (that's the technical name right? :) )

The ratchet one was installed, the non-ratchet was in the bag with the servo screws IIRC.

My aircraft DX7 came with the heli throttle tension bar also.

mine came with one too :D
i have found that most people don't know what the little metal thingy is so they through it in the trash as it just wont fit a servo nor will it fit any of the controle serfice's [:@]

I bought mine from fleabay without servos so I suppose the company that pulled the servos just kept that as well. The one that I did this mod to belonged to my bro and it works just the same as mine does now. If you don't have it no worries but by all means if you have the thing hanging in a bag just use it.

Hey overpower, I was just wondering what happened with your build? Also I was wondering if the dx7 works with all the servos, gyro and governor? Sorry for the question but I was looking to get a gv1 for my raptor 50 V2, however it states that you need an 8+ ch TX/RX to be able to use it? Is that true or does the dx7 work fine? You can use it with a 7 channel reciever but you get limited functionality.

GV1 is old news, there's better, smaller, lighter, faster, and cheaper governors out now.
