Gyro compatability

Does anyone know if I can run a Futaba GY401 gyro with a JR DS8611 servo. I recall something about Futaba and JR not working together in a gyro setup but cannot remember the details or find where I read that. Thanks guys.

it'll work just fine.

YEP, It will work just fine. What heli are you going to install it on?

Its going on a Raptor 50 in the RC Aerodyne AS350 scale fuse. I want the added torque with the fuse. Thanks for your help guys!

You dont need added torque for a fuselage, I'd just run a 9254, thats what its designed for.

RE: Gyro compatability

My 9254 needs to be sent back and repaired (does not turn right). I have an 8611 without a home and want to fly while the 9254 is repaired. So my choices are a standard digital futaba or a JR 8611. Thats what was ment by the added torque.

I'vealready flown the standard digital futabe in an MD-530 and it does not have enough torque in a fuse. That same servo works fine in my Raptor 30 as long as I'm not flying 3D.

a 9254 has only a few oz more torque then a standard servo, torque isn't the factor here it's the speed and frame rate of the servo. the tail pitch slider isn't a high torque application.

That servo has plenty of torque for a fuselage, Ihave two of them in operation. You can 3Dthe snot out of a 50 with the 401/9254, Ican do rolling tail slides and 80 mph backwards hurricanes. I tell you this not to contradict you but to let you know that if it's not working then something else is wrong. The 401 lacks piro rate consistency of the higher end gyros like the 611 when you start throwing piros into your manuvers it will speed up with the wind and slow down fighting it but it will hold the same as the big boys.

Flying scale with a fuselage is a lot easier on a tail servo than flying around doing backwards loops etc.

RE: Gyro compatability

BarracudaHockey, I think you have misunderstood me or maybe I was not clear enough to begin with. I completely understand what your saying about the 401/9254 combo. I've flown that combo. My problem is my 9254 is not working properly and needs to be repaired. In the mean time I still want to fly and simply wanted to know if I can fly a JR servo with my Futaba gyro. I have several Futaba S3151 servos and one JR DS8611 laying around. I know for a fact because I've done it, the Futaba S3151 does not work well in a scale fuse. There is not enough torque to turn that fuse after fast forward flight. On the other hand I've had great success using that same Futaba S3151 on my Rappy 30. With that said, would the JR DS8611 be a better choice between the two servos I have laying aroundas a temporary fix to get back into the airuntil my 9254 is repaired?

Oh gotcha. Yes, its a better choice! :)

Futaba GY401 gyro with a JR DS8611 servo is good choice

any body knows if the 401 works with JR 8231 (.60° speed: .22 sec @ 4.8v)
