Starter Question
 

I have a 12V starter. This is gonna sound really newbish and prolly a bit retarded. But being new to this I have to ask this question and I don't have any experience with these engines.

Iam trying to start my heli which is Raptor 50 with a 50 OS Hyper. When I try to start it, it doesn't budge anywhere, the 12v battery is charged as well as the glow igniter. The starter is turning counter-clcokwise (is that correct?), but like I said, nothing moves. If Iturn it clockwise it turns smooth.

I am thinking maybe I didn't tighten the cooling fan piece on the engine good enough to give it enough cleareance for the clutch bells rod to fit all the way in. Something just seems a miss, and it is rather frustrating since all I want to do is start up the damn thing. I have followed the instruction manual to a T. It seems the starter is turning it the wrong way maybe?

I think I may have figured out my own problem and would like to know if this would make sense.

When I tried to start it again this evening, I got one smooth crank out of it but then it tightened up again. So I took the engine out again and and noticed that it unscrewed a bit and tightened right up against the clutch bell making it impossible to turn it over with the starter.

I forgot to buy a piston locking tool to make everything as tight as it can be. So I think that this is the problem why it's making it impossible to turn over.

Does this make sense and has anyone ran into this kind of problem before?

Pull the motor out, take the backing plate off, put a wooden cloths pin or the handle of a toothbrush in beside the crank so it won't
turn over then tighten up the nut. Make sure you use loctite, blue or green, don't use red. That should fix your problem of the nut backing off, let it sit over night
to let the loctite dry.

Don't ever lock the piston with a piston lock, or as we call them, a piston punch.

Get a delrin plastic crank lock if you want to do it right. Also make sure you're not flooding the engine.

I have just got a crank lock tool, lets hope it works and the right size as there isn't many options for crank locking tools.

Bah seems I didn't get my crank lock. So the meanwhile I heard that you can use a bic lighter to help lock the piston. What else can one use around the house to take care of the job?

I got it all tightened up, so all is good. Thanks for the help all.
