ESC

Ok so I have tested this idea and it seems to all be in order. I have an ESC from a older helicopter. (Falcon 3d ) And the ESC is for a brushless motor. it also outputs exactly 5V for the reciver and servos. Well why cant I just use this with the Lipo's it came with and comvert my heli into a Lipo powered machine because the flight times are alot better. I have powered my heli with it and it all seems fine. Just wondering if there is something Hidden I dont know about.

just use the power its made for, it should either be limited to 9.6v or 12v . just dont exceed the voltage limit and it should work fine.

I think you missed what I was asking. Has nothing to do with 9.6 or 12. The Lipo Pack is 11.1V and it outputs 5V and Lipo packs are in multiples of 3.7V so 9.6 and 12 are impossible with LiPo. My reciver is 5V. I have a Nicad pack running the reciver. I want to use this ESC for a voltage regulator to run the reciver. I know it will work as I have bench tested it. I want to know if there is something in the ESC that will make it fail or something unwanted.....

Yes, You could use the ESC as a regulator. Do I recommend it? Absolutely not! Another thing you might keep in mind is servo power requirements. You could be overloading your ESC's power capabilities and be left with no control of the aircraft if the servo demand for power on the new aircraft are much bigger than on your Falcon.

finaly! this is what i was worried about and why I havent done it. I noticed when I was just running the 5servos and gyro it got rather hot. The voltage was constant. But it never gets that hot unless the brushless motor is attached. Thanks! Now im gonna go look for a good voltage regulator with a built in glow capablities. Any recommendations?

I am not familiar with those gadgets. I prefer to keep my systems separate. I do use Fromeco Arizona regulators for my helis, and regular Fromeco "linear" regulators for my airplanes.
