There's enough room up front for 2-2300ma A123 and the 9.9 Li-fe turbine battery although I needed to put one of my rx packs in the fuse to balance. I just put the batteries in with some foam and used cable ties to keep them from moving.

Tracks like an knife, on the ground and in the air, really don't see why you would need an gyro on this one??

You are so right , I was doing some taxi runs and noticed that it had a little toe out on the mains and as soon I add power it would want to spin around , I add the toe in and it went straight after . What is the proper toe in amount?
Thx

Not really sure. I think mine is probably around 1-2 degrees. It is probably in the instructions or somewhere in this tread.

Put two lengths of carbon rod across the flat surface of the wheels 500mm long (equal), make the front narrower by 15mm

European UF lovers!
Last few days of a shipping special being offered by CARF, already had one uptake, if you look at the site there is a 50% shipping deal available Europe only and in stock kits only.

Last weekend myself and a friend took a trip out to marble bar - http://www.eastpilbara.wa.gov.au/Marble-Bar.aspx
It was a great weekend. We flew of an old WW2 airstrip that is still being maintained by the local shire for some reason (no signs of aircraft landing there). Apparently B24 Liberators used to be based there. Quite amazing when you consider this place really is in the middle of nowhere.
Planes are they Epic Victory (beautiful flyer) and of course the bush hack Ultra Flash

Has anyone flown or is still flying an UF without those two vents under the tail end of the fuselage?

Yes we didn't cut them in on either of our UF's, my Dad's because I think he literally forgot they we're suppose to be there until the build was nearly finished and me because with the smaller turbine that I'm using, I didn't think it would make a huge difference, we've never noticed high Fuselage Temperatures or had any heat related problems of any kind. I'm sure if your running a bigger turbine, it will definitely help, because we're using the smaller cased turbines (Merlin 140 and Merlin 100) maybe the Venturi effect created draws more air through, keeping the Tail Pipe cooler.

The fuselage temps will be higher without. If you are not using the bye pass you could get away without, but with its a must. The only air inlet to the outer cool wall is the gaps and these openings

Hey guys, need some help I picked up a second hand flash and am close to the maiden (after I went thru and re installed most of the components and cleaned it up). I went to test the fuel system after installing the felt clunks Dave has recommended. So when I go to fill the tanks with my jersey fueler (mine is an older model that does not have as much power as the newer ones) my UAT swells up a bit and the main tank starts to balloon / swell. It seems to take forever for fuel to make it to the wing tank.... I had to fuel and wait, fuel and wait over and over to prevent the tank from swelling to much... When removing fuel the uat shrinks up. Seems like a vent issue but my lines are all clear.... Finally when filling it up in a test the main tank cracked and what a mess. The tank was pretty old and had been glassed over by the previous owner so a replacement was probably over due. So I don't want to ruin a new tank. Any ideas and has anyone else had this issue with the flash tanks??

Hi bri6672.

I think you have two options.

Fill the tanks slower (put in a restrictor, use lower voltage battery or make a simple DC motor controller).
or get a set of these - http://www.jettechusa.com/collection...-fuel-tank-set

There is something restricting the flow between the main and wing tanks or in the vent of the wing tank. It happened to me once and I found the problem to be the vent line was getting squeezed when I install the wing on the fuse so you better check everything on the bench and check every thing when wing go on the fuse. Also, double check the clunk in the wing tank.

I guess I'm a bit late to the party, but I finally have the Ultra flash ordered and look forward to flying it. Finished reading 171 pages of posts - thank you for sharing!

Setup is K140G, standard Carf pneumatic gear, and contemplating a Powerbox Cockpit SRS (figured I'd rather buy that and use a pair of 6303s or even better Frsky X8Rs rather than shelling out for another R6014+powerswitch).

I was wondering if those of you who have similar setups be kind enough to share more photos of the installation? Especially where you put the air tank, size and installation of batteries, hopper tanks, nose weight, plumbing, wiring / second board, etc... I've seen some helpful pictures from DW, Spike5150, Midas D, etc...but wish I could see more.

Many thanks.

Leo

Never too late! We have just had a burst of UF newbies in England, added to yours it was the largest number I sold in any week since it was released!
The PB is overkill-do you already have one? The PB sensor switch the wood set is designed for is perfect-with a 6014. The UF can need nose weight, but installing correctly none is needed. The PB although heavier tends to mount further back in the tub
Plan the install based on the hopper first (closest to the main fuel tank), mount the pump in front of the hopper (close is good, but along side the nose steering servo is a good line.

Best Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

Where have you settled at with your CG on the UF?
I have been moving mine back a bit of late. Its at 230mm from the wing joint (measured with gear up and tanks empty) now but I feel it could go back further.
Do you know of anyone that has moved it back further to say 240mm?

Paul.

I have never gone back more than 225mm. I like the tail to be loaded up. I run lots of movement and it hold KE and has very little down in. All the ones I set up are around 225.
I don't know anyone who has gone further back

Dave

I originally balanced mine at 230mm and found it still to be too heavy on the nose for my taste, I have since balanced mine at 240mm (only a tiny amount of Down Elevator required when Inverted) back from the Wing Joint with around half an inch of Fuel in the Main Tank (as even with an extended flight time, I never really drop below around an Inch in the Main, the plane is very versatile at this CG and Slow Rolls and Knife Edge are effortless with only a tiny amount of down mixed in. I commented to Dave at a meeting last weekend about my UF sinking a little in Knife Edge, but this was later attributed to the fact Ive been flying my Inverza with a immensely powerful Rudder for the last few months, Ive now dropped my Expo to around 15% and find it much better. I wouldn't be worried about balancing it at this measurement, the only thing Id be a little cautious of, is when the plane is completely empty, mine tends to tip up on the Main Wheels, luckily I caught mine on the way down and now have some sponge ready at either end of the day

Dave......have you every heard of any other UF's running a small amount of 'Up' trim?? Mine even with CG back there, still runs a small amount, the Tail fit is perfect, cant see any big gaps around any of the Wing Seat and have just sort of lived with it thinking it may similar to the Ultra Lightning.
