Got 4 flights on My Ultra Flash, Still working on getting her slowed down to land. This plane really maintains energy. Love the power with the Cheetah. Does anyone have a knife edge mix settings , I fly a JR 9303 2.4. I have got to say I love the way this jet flies, Its like an arrow!!! As for the landings I think I might be flying the pattern to fast, I have a tree line to clear on landing thats 200 yards away. Does she give good warning before she tip stalls?? Thanks Jack
OK , so many people are trying to tell me that JR /Spektrum is endangering my jet , so whats the real deal, cant be that so many are flying Spektrum/JR and there is an issue , otherwise , I am sure that we would have a riot on hand with them ,
so why are people scarying me away from JR

I have a 9303 2.4, and in the process of ordering electronics and gears - any recomendations welcome

Jack: where do you have the satelites and are you using a powerbox? how have you set up the servo's/ channels

thanks

I've flown my Classic Flash for 5 years on DSM-2 without an issue and now the Ultra Flash for 2 years with the same set up. One remote in the nose, One on the tank and the RX 921 JR as shown. Powerbox Sensor Switch 2 x 3000 Li-Po packs I can do 12-15 flights without charging.

We got away with 72, now we are getting away with DSMX. With DMSS, we at least have reliability up with only two non satellite reciever whiskers. And we get telemetry with a satellite. So we are making progress. Maybe we are comfortable with what we have. But when we can we move ahead, why would we take a step backward? Im not sure i would promote someone buying into an older system if something better is coming along. Given a choice. One step back is ok if its a steal. Not for the same price - thats a choice.
Its only getting better.

I have had flawless performance from my Spektrum receivers in several airplanes over the last few years. The secret to success is the power source. I have 3 12 channel power safe rx's running on 2 A123 batteries. One of the jets has 10 servos, all 8711 size. I have run 2 jets with 9 channel rx's using only one battery pack but on those jets I ran heavy duty battery leads to a switch that had 2 power lines to the rx. The normal JR connector is rated for about 5 amps and using 2 leads gives me 10 amps to the rx. Both jets were relatively simple setups. Spektrum works well if you power it correctly. My TX is a JRJ 12X. Feed your Spektrum Rxs well and you will have no problems.

My CARF Hawk does that. I fixed with down elevator mix to throttle. Works perfect.

Kind of hard to trim out, because of the WIDE speed envelope of this plane. IF you put in enough throttle to elevator mix to correct properly it will baloon on you when you pull the power and glide down to your trim setting.

Izzy, I fly a Jr9303 2.4 radio with a Jr 922 dsmx powersafe reciever on my Ultra Flash and on my Boomerang Elan. Both have( twin) A123 2 cell 2300 batteries feeding directly into the reciever EC3 battery plugs. The boomerang has 248 flights on this set up, the Flash has only about 8 flights on her so far. I use a total of three remote recievers one in the nose one in the canopy area and one in the right wing .I used all the recommended JR8411 sevos on the flight surfaces. No powerbox is needed as there are two battery inputs on the reciever and a small switch that signals the reciever to turn on .I charge with a Cellpro 4s balance charger that charges directly through the balance plug at the batteries. I also charge the Life 3 cell turbine battery with this charger. I like how convenient it is to charge with, it tells you the amount of charge present expressed as "fuel level percentage %". Charges up to 4 amps, also does lipoly, plus its small and fits neatly in my flight box. The A123 batteries I used are in the stick (end to end) configuration and fit neatly in each bay next to the nose gear,I got them from Todds models. The 3 cell ECU battery is in the nose with the air tank. I set it up completely stock as shown in the manual clean and simple. You are going to love this jet , its fast and flies on rails. Enjoy!! I use crow on my ultra, works great....she is so clean without it I'm not sure how you get it slowed down...maybe if your operating off a grass strip....
Just put more flap on till you get big drag, she then slows down a treat, no need for reflex. If you need crow you are not putting enough flap on.

It's amazing how a big proportion of the jet landings you see at many events overshoot and end up way down the runway past the pilot, relying on wheel brakes. A bit of speed management in the pattern/approach would sort most of this. UF will fly very slow, much slower than you might think, but I have also found the lower limit

You can slow the UF way down with lots of flap, just like Robrow said. And just like he said the bottom end of that limit will most likely result in a really nasty tip stall at the worst possible time. I personally find it lots more predictable to use crow or reflex as some call it on my approches. It just seems to make the approach more controllable, especially if you are landing in a pretty good crosswind.

Test flew my new Ultra Flash on sunday at the Long Marston Jet meet. Landing was surprisingly straight forward as this manouver is the one we most dread on the first flight with a Jet.

I took a lot of advice from many UF pilots but because there was about a 12-15mph headwind decided on 75mm (3 ins.) full flap and a small amount of aileron reflex (5mm at tip).

5mm of down elevator mix on full flap(at tip) seemed just right and she came in no problem. Trim was slightly nose down in this set up which is just as i like it on full flap.

My UFscheme is a color swap green to red and top of fus, nose to start of fin had been deseamed and painted at the factory "nice".

Phil.

I have a 36lbs turbine in my UF, and at any speed and any thrust, the plane is dead on straight with no trim changes whatsoever. If it climbs under power, i would check and or a combination of the following : -CG - thrust angle of the turbine. Make sure its situated centered in the pipe - Wing and stab alignment. Make sure the incidence on both wing and horizontal stab are the same. They should be good from the factory, however nothing is always perfect..

Agree with Voy. The Ultra has no trim change at all from slow to stupid high speed passes. The two I built both flew straight as they should off the board.

I did notice spacing between the tail cone and the fuse. As for power..I might have to change my K-180 to a k-140 due to high residual thrust making it hard to slow down, even with full flaps [:@]

P.S even during taxing for take off its like a run away train, I know its my fault

Hi guys, looking at getting one of these later in the year.

Does the FOD guard fit with the P-120 using a Bypass duct?

thanks

Alex,

The P120 with fod guard is a perfect fit in the bypass, the reason why? The model was originally designed around the p120/80!

Day one! Claire started her Ultra Flash build tonight, after reading through the manual (allowed as she not a bloke ) I ran through the first jobs of cutting out the ply parts and filing/sanding the parts to a finish. Cleaning up the slots to allow various sub assemblies to be dry assembled and after an introduction to Mr Razor Saw and Mr Perma Grit file, I went to plane the top off a cupboard door...
A couple of hours later and the radio install plates are roughly done and the servo mounts are being assembled.

Only issue I have is she keeps saying it needs a P-180RX[:@]
