Default (Blackburn) Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer

Anyone know if there are plans or a kit out there (of any degree) of this aircraft? How about a source for some good dwgs?

Thanks for any possible leads.

one of my absolute favorites.
I started looking at it, for a single turbine, but the bifurcated duct put me off.
what were you thinking of powering it with and size required, I could get interested again.

Excellent drawings (Multi view) at: http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw/buccanier.html

The attachment provides an idea of scope of the drawing, the actual is a zip file that may be downloaded.

Dennis, thanks for the link. Took a little work to convert the file but it did work and looks very good.

Bob, I'm only just starting to collect information for a potential future project. I have a number of kits ahead of this in my que but am looking to try my hand at a total scratchbuild project by making a plug, mold, etc. etc. A couple airframes have my eye at the moment, this one and a CF-100 Canuck. The Canuck is a simple airframe in comparison. Both are unique in that you rarely see them modelled. The Buccaneer may carry more UK appeal than the Canuck. Neither likely hold much US appeal.

My target would be to do either with twin EDF high powered fans, keeping a target AUW in the low 30's. I guess there would be no reason why a couple small turbines wouldn't work either. I agree that with the inlets and exhausts spread apart, a single power source would be more difficult. Going with 2 make more sense IMHO.

Sean, OK, I've started looking at fuselage in 3D, got some 3D time now as most of the problem areas of the TSR-2 have been resolved.

Hi
I know of a Buccaneer that is being developed, but it is a bit of a "Black project", It is up to the gentleman doing the hard work to tell you more. What I will say is it will be a stunning model when finished.

Hi Bob
Well saying as he has broken cover on another forum, I can say it is the escaped Leprechaun himself Dave Matthews and knowing Dave well the plane will be well worth the wait.

I have been privy to a few of the details but I won't steal Dave's thunder.

Martin,

Thanks for jumping in! I forgot all about that one on RCG. Do you know if any progress has been made? Will it stay traditional construction, or be made into a mold?

Unfortunately, Thunder City is closed. South Africa pulled their permit in March, 2010.
Guess I'll never get a flight in a Lightning.

Hi Guys

Let me know if you need some close shots of the Buccaneer, have a friend that works there in another division and he will be able to get us some pics. Is there a composite one on the way from someone, have been thinking of making them, as there are a few people that have asked me about one..

Thunder City is closed now yes. It is sad, but believe me the Lightning was a beast. Was present the day at a reed run and standing about 30meters away, i was and still am speechless after that.

We did loose a good pilot as well in the Lightning crash of last year. Let me know if you need some close pics of a lightning as well

Will be passing Thunder City next week and could stop for a quick photo shoot

Anyone know if there has been any further developments in our jet community for the Buccaneer? Think it would make a nice (uncommon) subject. [8D]

Cool Bob. Will be a very interested in seeing it progress. I think the aircraft would make a very unique and rare scale model. Also lots of opportunity for surface detail that could really make a nice project. Youve drawn in electric fans, I'm not sure that it has enough exit dia/area to pull that off, do you? I think this needs a pair of smaller turbines.

Actually, I think this plane SCREAMS edf. The size of the intakes are huge, and a fairly straight run to the exhaust. "Artistic license" can certainly be taken on exhaust diameter ... but not much is needed, me thinks.
A twin turbine certainly can be much larger and impressive ... not to mention, loaded with all the scale goodies ... but at a much greater size and cost.
Either way, it will be () a cool future project ......

Any of our UK friends know of any developments on the buccaneer? I'm still really interested, even if its just a raw fuse at this point. I'm ok with scratchbuilding the rest of the plane and systems around it.

Thanks for any leads!
