Default Which afterburner light ring is best???

Hi guys, I'm looking to fit an afterburner light ring on my Skymaster 1/6 F16, which do you guys feel gives the best results? The details4scale single row AB ring, or flugmodellbau/airfighter.eu single row AB ring or their 3 row AB ring? my first thought is the 3 row (more led's = more light) but is this practical or overkill? I have found video or the details4scale ring but not the 3 row airfighter. Your feedback and ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks guys!!!

I have the Details4Scale 120mm light ring and it throws out a lot of light. I used some aluminum tape on the inside of my tail cone and it reflects even more out. Have not seen the other units but don't think you would be unhappy with the Details4Scale unit.

if you fly during day you are looking at the for Details4Scale one.[sm=thumbup.gif]
the rest units use leds and they are not even close to D4S

D4S use high power 1-watt emitter style lights (Luxeon type) way more powerfull than the rest

I have used the airfighter.eu single ring on my F-100 and F-104, both are excellent and very visible to a great distance.

Default RE: Which afterburner light ring is best???

I have been using the (single) rings from flugmodellbau in the past, was very satisfied with it.

The three-row big ring which fits in the SM 1/6 F-16 is priced higher than the last colour TV I bought for our bedroom [X(] ; hence was not a "reasonable" option to me anymore.
Some pilots have nonetheless excellent results with it, like Tor Christiansen ('icepilot').

The JetCat stuff is made with another kind of (SMD) LEDs and gives very similar performance, also due to the higher number of LEDs (I am not saying better or worse).
You can connect one or two rings to one LCU NB unit, or to their new LCU Jet unit (the latter an electronic control for all thinkable lights on a jet).
I got a full explanation from the JetCat electronics engineer at JetPower2010 about it. The very last version has now a very smart PC-link for the LCU Jet programming (and works together with a JetCat ECU, if you wish, for any thinkable input or output signals, combined or not, through the ECU battery or a separate battery, on the ECU channels or separate RX channels, etcetera, etcetera).
They seem not to put a lot of marketing effort on these light systems but it definitely is worth it considering it. Also the price is acceptable for the JetCat rings and electronics.
Bottleneck with the first versions they made seemed to be the writing of the full manual (ask me how I know ! I got pi$$ed off after 8 months of waiting for a manual of what I bought !), there are so many possibilities and possible combinations that this is a huge task (and for them, translating it into proper English afterwards).
The last manual I had received from them for the first version of the LCU Jet was scary at first sight but the system itself is quite simple in reality, once you understood the sequence. With the downloadable software and the PC-link it is extremely selfexplanatory and user friendly, as I could witness at JetPower. I think it is worth a full review in a magazine !

I have not seen the details4scale afterburner items yet, although I bought from Dan Gill the red and green belly lights for my own F-16 (to be combined with the JetCat electronics, on mine), and must say the quality of these components is really very nice and recommended (as well as the parachute system and speed brakes installed on my F-16 which are his items too).

In my own SM 1/6 F-16, I will install the big double JetCat ring PLUS the single ring, which you both can see on the photo (connected to the smaller&simpler LCU NB here).
The big ring fits nicely in the SM tailcone (you have to sand off the mounting lips) ; the other ring will be mounted around the tailpipe. It will definitely be overkill ; only reason is because I have the single ring laying around in my workshop for three years now - and the JetCat electronics accept two afterburner outputs anyway. Hope this information helps a little.
Nicolas.

Here is Tor Christiansen with the three-row flugmodellbau.de afterburner ring, and testing his own-designed air mist water system for enhanced light effect.

Hi
what about the Hyperdyne Labs?
http://www.hyperdynelabs.com/products_RC_RGBaftburn.php

I thought about them because I liked the possibility of changing the color affect.

Wow, cheers for that Rob, I am planning on having two a/b rings on my EE Lightning and didn't fancy paying airfighter.eu prices twice over! Wonder if it is as good as airfighter? At least I know how good the airfighter ones are.

HI

I Have the Xicoy Ring in my Boomerang XL. (bought on the Jetpower in Germany) It is as good as airfighter in my opinion. I compared serveral rings on the jetpower....

Awesome, what price differences there are on market...

Works fine and is very bright!!!

Works fine with y Lead and 2s Lipo

Light is slow pulsing up to bright lighting...

Easy adjustable to the stick positions...

Unbeatable for the price

I've used both Details4Scale and the one DreamworksRC carries. I like the Dreamworks one best for overall look. But, the Details4Scale one does NOT use a rx channel like the other one does...so that is a benefit. This is a picture of the Details4Scale one on my FEJ 1/5.5 F-16 that has a on board controller to keep from using a Rx channel and mixing.

Don't bother with it. You can't see the lights in daylight at all. I attempted to use that setup on my F-16. If you plan on flying at dusk they do look ok but that's about it. I went back to the standard D4S type of setup and never looked back.

Avi trust me on this one. The reason it's not visible in straight sunlight is the orientation of the LED strip that comes with the kit. They face upwards in a ring configuration unlike the D4S units that face outwards. That's why at dusk the Hyperdyne labs unit are very easy to see but with the angle of lens facing UP instead of OUT in direct sunlight it washes the color away. If you go with the non color changing Hyperdyne labs ring then it's much more visible in sunlight. The only difference is you don't get the color changing effect.

This ring on my F-16 is with the D4S style setup and is completely visible in daylight.

Pepperpete, you are right the LED strips I have are down firing. As such they dont throw a ton of direct light at you. But good news is I now have side firing rigid rings that do RGB color. Take a look. It was always my goal to finally get to a side firing ring. Problem is they are tough to make, try packing 3 colors on a small ring. One color is simple to do...
