Make up a brace to bolt to the booms once off the wings, put a bolt connection into the wing and put a socket head bolt in the wings with an access hole to allow an allen key to fit into a captive nut in the fus, halves the time to rig and de-rig.

Attached is the simple mod (using a 1/4" wheel collar and some ply) for hold-ons.
A carriage bolt has the head cut off, threaded into the blind nut in the wing root with blue Locktite and a flat spot where the cap-screw holds it in place. The holes are from the bottom for the rear pins, the front pins are inside the cockpit and easily accessed with an 8/32 ball driver. The KISS principle strikes (for me) again.
Also, I replaced the cap screw wing bolts with Phillips head machine screws. A short handled screwdriver works well here.
I also noticed that in the second photo you can see the Robart quick connects and the Multiplex connector.

The KISS principle out on the field is the idea, get all the complicated things done in the shop, rigging should be easy without any possibilities of mistakes being made, especially when someone is talking to you whilst you rig, pic should give the idea.

My Falcon 120 is quite easy to break down. I finish up with the fus, The tail plane and elevator (which is fixed with bolts) and two wings each with a boom attached.

So my Tornado will be here today, What mini servos are most you guys going with? Im trying to decide between the Savox SH1250MG or the Hitec 5245MG. Ive got a few Hitec 5625s laying around
that I will use on the flaps and ailerons. For power Im planning on using an old air start AMT mercury. IM gonna call it "operation budget beater jet" $800 for the airframe and gear.
I figure the mercury is worth $750-$800 $200-$250 worth of servos I actually have to buy plus a few odds and ends (brake valve, Uat, etc etc) $250 $2100 total investment for a RTF turbine
with decent quality gear not bad at all, lets see if I can stick to the budget....Knowing me probably not

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
Well i used 5625's in the rear and 645's for the flaps and aleirons.
I finished mine this week, certification tomorrow.
Put a k80 on it, optima 9 reciever, custom brake valve.
Only thing i wasnt happy about with the model was my booms didnt line up at the rear... eg i had a gap behind the wing where the boom starts on one side and not the other.
Took a little drilling to get them both to line up easily, and also it would have been nice to see a better canopy system. Else all good.
Wish me luck!

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
Not too much a little 3mm if that. The bigger problem is that youll need to cut a little of the covering away and put some ply in under the sides for the elevators as the servos are too deep.
If you can use low profile servos go for it, i just built it up instead. Yes that did annoy me a little also

Got mine in today I see what you mean ausfester. I think Ill go through the trouble of putting standard servos in, and ill probably take it one step further and cut the elevator down the middle, for separate stabs. just a little more redundancy and peace of mind

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
Maidened mine today, flew very well and on rails. Second flight landed nicely and run off end of runway onto grassed area and ripped out the left retract and flipped over. Damaged both booms and also other struts. My fault i touched down mid runway and brakes didnt stop me quick enough. They prolly helped me rip a retract out. The area where the retract supports are connected are very weak and i would recommend reenforcing them or just a little extra epoxy.
Doesnt help that the rabbits have gone wild out there.
A week or two and she will be good as new however very deflating,
Could have been worse but live and learn

Henry has confirmed that the UK consignment of Tornados, Sabres, MB339, wheels and struts for all models, Kingtech K80 Kerostart turbines shipped yesterday and will arrive in port late August.

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
I just wanted to pass along some much deserved thanks to Henry at Modellbau. I received my Tornado kit last Friday and found a few issues that needed to be addressed (not like any other ARF I have assembled in the past). I sent Henry an e-mail this morning, outlined my concerns and within 2 hours, Henry personally called to speak with me about my concerns. After speaking with Henry, all issues were addressed to my satisfaction and assured that he will do what it takes to make things right.
I am very impressed with the customer service I received from Modellbau and from Henry himself. Henry is very accommodating and will do what is necessary to resolve any issues that a customer may have.
Just wanted to pass along my appreciation and thanks to Henry for the great customer service I received and will certainly continue to do business with Modellbau in the future.

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
First off let me just say I'm the slowest friggin' builder in the world and am just about ready to get my Tornado in the air! Two quick questions maybe some experts here can clarify for me?
1) according to the jet cat manual there is talk and it shows of a "on board starting tank" in the propane schematic... Is this required?
can I just start by hooking the propane bottle to the propane line/pump direct to the engine?
2) how can I really tell when i have the elevator set up right? the instructions, or maybe someone said, "flush with the top of the stab?" how can this be when the stab is concave on top? the bottom of the stab is straight so it would have been easy to line up the elevator with that, but i realize that is not always the case..how can i be sure exactly where my elevator should be set up so as not to have some wild ride on maiden due to the elevator being so off? Thanks

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
1) most ppl these days leave the propane tank off board
2) just favor a little up, no wild ride, maybe a few clicks either way. Use the TLAR method (that looks about right) you'll have it dialed in in no time.

Jetfly...I like your wing attachment locked in from the fuselage. I plan on using this 1/4 axle bracket from wheel pants. Don't remember who makes it. Might be a little heavier than your do it yourself, but it does have a larger gluing area. Is that a 6 pin multiplex in the wing? Ailerons and flaps wired directly to the multiplex and rudder and elevaor disconnects from aileron extensions to the muiltiplex when the boom is removed

thats what I figured on the tank. still not 100% certain on the elevator, so if i start from even at the bottoms (stab bottom even with elevator bottom), bring the elevator up, what? a 1/16"? 1/8" 1/4"? I'm guessing an 1/8-1/4" up should be ok?

Just remember the way you fly, its always preferable to be holding up elevator than trying to hold down, especially when trying to land.

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
Yup, plain old Multiplex for Aileron and flaps, second one for rudder and elevator. Make sure you make the connections opposites!
Greg
Now you've done it ..you got me confused. What second one? I'm planning on using a 6 pin multiplex with the signal wire form the aileron, flap, rudder and elevator connected to each of 4 pins and then all 4 positives to one pin and all 4 negatives to the 6th pin. Will there be a current problem all going to one pin? Also not sure what you mean about making the connections opposites.
