Default P20 - What jet would you like?

We are looking for a suitable subject matter from which to make a composite jet suitable for P20 power.
The plan is for around 1.2m span, and possibly something based on a Russian jet although this is not set in stone. It needs to be fairly uncomplicated (single turbine - single fin etc), with a good platform for good flying characteristics so the end result is a competitively priced jet.
Please post suggestions and any pictures that you feel would help, even if its an own design you would like to see manufactured.....

Marc

I think if you want mass sales you need a sports jet with good grass field possibilities. People will want models to "feel" their way into the smaller turbines. A mini Hotspot would work.
Scale? Seeing people like the boomerang, do a Vampire T11 with increased fin area over scale and you won't go far wrong.

I'd love a Yak 130 in that sort of size, I'm sure you could do something non scale with the gear to make life simple...

Fouga Magister would be nice. Large wing area, distinctive V tail, lots of civilian and military schemes to choose.

Must be Russian? Mig15 full composite!!! :-)

I really like a good neutral sportjet, light wingloading that can perform knife edge easy without to much mixers.
For example a mini Futura (has a high fuselage)

Yep, Mig-15!

F-84 would be pretty cool too!

A delta would be nice. I was going to suggest a small Eurofighter but the mini Hotspot idea sounds good too.

Does the fact that you're looking at another model mean that the Stinger is nearly finished?

Small Eurofighter gets my vote. I'd be down for one for sure.

De Havilland Swallow

That would be a nice and simple model.

A Hotspot is so "2001". ;-)
Unless you want to fly only fast what the only good thing is about a Hotspot.
A "2010" sportplane must have a wide speedrange and have a effective rudder.

Hi,
the Stinger is really my project, and yes it is getting there, the first versions we have been flying have performed exceptionally well and it has surpassed my hopes and expectations in flying performance, the intention was to build small sport jet which is designed to be an aerobatic jet and enjoyable to fly, originally around the 90mm EDF, but since it's announcement the P-20 has been a perfect match. the model i had at Jetpower on Marcs stand will fly soon with EDF, then a quick conversion to turbine to test it out with the P-20.
i have been re-finishing the plugs with a few modifications and improvements and have simplified the wing fixing, these will be off for moulding in the next few days, i should have the first two pre-production models in a month or so. i had hoped to be at this stage before now, but work keeps getting in the way.
i think Marc is asking about another jet for his Ukranian friends to produce (UKR jet) i already have another set of plugs mostly finished for another P-20 sport jet, which i will leave Marc to show when we're ready, and i have a scale project lined up for the winter which is currently just a CAD model, busy times

Rich.

Want a Russian plane ?

Why not a Yak 17 ???

Derivated from WW2 warbird Yak 3 with single jet engine under the nose and nose wheel.

Exit also with tailwheel as Yak 15... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakovlev_Yak-15

See here : www.aviastar.org/air/russia/yak-17.php

I need more info on what the AUW and fuel load is for a P-20 powered airframe..
I have this in the works, which I plan to convert to turbine..
Full composite construction, aiming to have it available with fuel tank(s) and thrust tube, ready for retracts for US$700-us$800 shipped anywhere in the world..
The alternative is airframe only supply your own tanks/thrust tube for US$5xx anywhere in the world..

I too would be interested in a p20 powered eurofighter or perhaps a sport jet simular to a Bandit or Flash.

Been covered on the various P-20 threads but from memory 550 grams installed weight, 16 oz fuel minimum

Dave,
Thanks for that.. I'm thinking more up what the AUW of an airframe including the turbine install should be max...
This gives me some limits to work around when deciding if an airframe is capable of being converted..

The P20 does not have much thrust. Therefore avoid delta and swept wings aircrafts. A straight wing aircraft like the L39, F9F, F5/20 or the later Russian trainer jets Yak 130 and MigATA. A thick symmetrical airfoil will give low and high speed capabilities.

Good feedback and appreciate the comments.
As Rich mentions he is the man in control of the Stinger, I just help along the way and when it is done which wont be that long off it will be available to purchase via my website - for those not aware of the jet it is a neat looking sports jet designed for P20 or a 90mm fan if that rocks your boat. Pics attached of prototype
We have another joint project for P20, very different and potentially very fast, but will slow up and cruise as well - details will follow.
Question here is for my friends in the Ukraine, together we are looking to make a nice composite jet for P20 first, then something for P80 size, and finally something for P120. So yes P20 first, Euro is interesting, like the Mig15 idea too, Yak17 unfortunately never flew well so don't hold hopes for a kit.
Keep the ideas coming, some good feedback.

How about a Jet Provost, 3,4 or 5. The T5 could be painted as a Strikemaster, so camouflage colours are possible too.

With its straight wing, docile handling and very short landing gear struts, it should be easy to replicate and rugged. Engine access like the real jet through a hatch on the top mid fuselage, should be easy to do.

I'll have the first one and relive my youth !

Regards,

David.

Instead of another Mig-15, how about a similar but different Mig-17?

Mig-19?
