Finally, few days ago I made maiden flight with my Panther...
That was the first flight of RC jet model in Serbia...

Landing could be better, but...

Very well done indeed.... Your field looks quite rough so maybe this contributed to the landing....

Next time have a fire extinquisher near by when you start though in case of a fire

Well done

Superb model, well done indeed for the fantastic build quality and now the first flight. I bet your hands are still shaking! You flying field makes the one used for Florida jets look like a bowling green. It would be great if you could manage to 'divert' a road roller to make it nice and flat. The Zirolli Panther does fly well and you made a good choice of first engine.

Congrats on the maiden! Looks great in the air! One question, what deflections (in mm) did you use on elevator and ailerons?
Thank You

Now is middle of July, and I have just four flight with my Panther.

Ziroli F9F is great flying model.
Jet Cat P 80 have to much power, so I fly model with half of throttle all the time. Just on take off it need full throttle, and from my grass airfield it is in the air for just 25 meters...

I must be sincere my airfield is not perfect, little more rough than it must to be, and my landings could be more smooth.
On every landing I swing front leg. So few weeks ago I change Robart front leg for German Behotec one. Geometry of Behotec gear is better, and my opinion is that it will be better for my airfield.

Behotec gear I putt in Robart mechanism. I must made few little changer, but result is good.

I add two wooden triangles and push leg more forward when it is in open position.

I was not fly Panther with this new gear... We will see, I hope now everything will be OK...

Here are a videos from second third and fourth start of my F9F. Fourth video is from RC meeting in Belgrade...

Until last post here, I made almost 20 flights with Panther, so now I have 24 flights total.
Behotec front leg work well, but speed on approach for landing was fast, and elevator was very sensitive...

Because that I add 100 gr weight in F9F nose, and mix flaps with elevator for landing.
After that remake landing with Panther is like slow motion, very slow, and very stable...

Panther fly sooooooooo nice... Jet Cat P 80 is great, work impeccably... Those two parts are wining combination, and it is super for first jet model.

My friend is owner of jet airplane - Galeb G2. That jet aircraft was design and produced in Yugoslavia.
Few days ago I use opportunity to made few photos of "our two jets"...

This Galeb G2 is one of five Galeb airplane from Serbian Acro group "Stars". All airplanes are on our lokal airfield Čenej, near Novi Sad, Serbia...

Hello friends, I have a question, which profile is on the wing of the Ziroli Panther?

Thanks in advance

Mirce

P.S. Galeb G2, jet from pictures above will be my next scratch build project. I will made it in 1/5 scale, and it will be all wooden construction...

mirce:

I take my hat off to you for such a remarkable build. Well done.
You said on panel lines you used 1.2mm masking tape and applied body filler....... please help me
here, how thick body filler did you apply and how long after applying the body filler did you remove the masking
tape ?Did you do any sanding down before removing the masking tape ? Would primer instead of filler work as well ?
The reason I am asking, I have never tried any panel lines at all. I am near the stage of adding panel lines to
my Byron P51D 1/5 Mustang wings.
Many thanks

Hello Gummy, thanks for kind words...

I used Oracal 641 foil, which cut on my Roland cutter on lines 1,2 mm wide. Regardless lines are so narrow they stick on surface very strong.
When you add all lines, I used acrylic filler. I use filler from canister. You need 4-5 layers because you need thickness. Tomorrow, when filler is dry, just remove lines...

Look this link, this is my latest project and few days ago I was doing that: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10...page_16/tm.htm
On P 47 my friend add filler, but all other is same...

If you want to add rivets with soldering iron, in that case don't sand nothing after take panel lines from surface. After riveting you will carefully sand all surface, but take care to not sand to much, and made lines and rivets (circles) shallow...

If you made rivets from little foil circles, than you need smooth surface. Look procedure on P 47...

Rivets with soldering iron is much complicated, and every every mistake is hard to fix. For rivets from foil you need just patience...

Hope this will help. If you have some more question, just ask...

All the best from Serbia

Hello mirce,

Many thanks for the details on panel lines and rivets from the master himself. You are truly very good
with what you do. I will be following your link on your latest on P-47.
I would love to be at Top Gun, but from South Africa to Top Gun at this stage costs are to high.
You have a safe trip

Many thanks

Little up date about my Panther...

Until now I have 58 flight, and I must say this is one awesome jet model. I choose it just because it is in kit form, and after many reading how good it fly, I told myself: "OK, lets made it"...
I was so lucky that I bought this jet.

Our airfield is pretty rough, but landing gear work fine. I change nose gear, bought Behotec leg, and it is now much, much better than Robart.
I still use Robart pneumatic mechanism. Conception of front gear is great, because end of the nose gear is connected with mechanism with 6 mm steel pin. If you have hard landing that pin will bend backward. In every machine work shop you can made new pin and go again on flying...
I bent it at least more than 20 times... [&o]

After 15 - 20 flights I move CG little forward, than it is on the plan, and my landings start to be better. Few flights ago I add again little more lead, and landings are now even better...

But today I have bad luck, during take off my tire on left wheel broke, so I lost it...

Landing was on fuselage...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=LXwQAn74xU0

... but thank God, nothing was broke on fuselage. damage is only cosmetic, which give even better weathering...

I love this jet sooooooooooo much.....

Irtrtf, sorry for delay on answer, I saw your comment today...

This model from grass airfield start very well. Jet Cat P80 is little to much for this "bird", so after 25 - 30 meters Panther is in the air. I saw that modeler scale up plans for 20% and made bigger F9F with same engine. For information, this Panther is 12,5 kg with fuel, and turbine thrust is 10 kg. I fly it always with few clicks under half throttle, full throttle is needed just on take off, or if you want to made unlimited vertical figure...

After about 80 flights, my Panther went to "retirement"...

I take out all parts from model, some is install in my new project Galeb G2, and some will be back in F9F after "face lift"...

Few belly landings, and few not so smooth landings, made some damage on fuselage under side. Luckily that are just scratches and on few parts was missing edges or small piece of balsa. Structural everything is OK...

Because I want to sell a Panther, I decided to completely fix and repaired it. The surgery is not large, I need to sand complete model, change parts that are damaged, on whole model, after that, will be added acrylic putty, which will fill all holes and scratches, then sanding... After that "therapy", Panther will be ready for painting.
Color scheme will be completely different, but Ali's model will be again my "inspiration"...

Work started with wings ...

Panther is painted with polyurethane paint, which is very hard. In some places, there are three layers, so I was really "struggled" while I'm all sand down.
I tried to take off gray filler as much I could, but I took care not to accidentally break the glass cloth ...

After wings, fuselage was next...

Now I need to fix all damage. There are not many and not be a problem to fix everything ...

To be continued...

Regards

Mirce

transport and border tax for some plastic model airplane is very expensive so....
For similar reasons i desired to realize this project myself.
I have few questions about airfoil. Which airfoil is used in your jet. maybe you have aCad drawing of airfoil
Wing and stabilizer angles
Can you show, how after joining wing you are fixing it with fuselage.
thanks.
