Hi,

Ian, I forgot to do that while I was in my shop today. I'll do it tomorrow for sure!

Hi,

Got some more work done today on this bird. As previously stated, space is at a premium in here. I've got a lot of stuff to install, so I spent a little extra time trying to plan this out. I decided to add an extra tray above the nose-gear mount. This tray will hold all three valves (canopy, gear/doors and brake valve), the valve servos, the UAT and the gear fail-safe. It rests atop a couple of hardwood standoffs and mounting tabs glued to the existing nose gear plate and former.

Instead of the horizontal accessories trays called for in the kit (and, irritatingly missing from this ARF), I made a vertical tray on the port side for the engine doo-dads. There are still batteries and a receiver to be situated. We'll see what happens! As long as everything is easily accessible to the customer, I'm happy. I plan to make sure that the valves are plumbed so that they won't need to be fiddled with once stuffed in there, but the batteries and fill-valves need to be handy.

Shaun,
Your trays will actually be easier to access and give you more room than the stock trays..Good Idea!

Tom,

Thanks. How did you come out, CG-wise? Did you have to add any ballast?

Tom,

Can you talk to me about your VT mixing? What Tx are you using, and what channels did it all take up?

Ha!

Funny you should ask.... No, actually, my customer wanted the JMP one, and I forgot and installed the BVM one. I'll have to modify the plate and retro the JMP.

Shaun, I use a 12X. I'll try to explain my sick method of programming. There are probably more efficient ways but this worked for me.
Ch 1 - throttle
Ch 2 - horz stab (lt)
Ch 3 - horz stab (rt)
Ch 4 - Rudder (rt)
Ch 5 - gear
Ch 6 - Flaps (w/Matchbox) nd set up on the flap system
Ch 7(aux2) - ailerons (through Y connector and slaved to roll portion of stab)
Ch 8 (aux3) - brakes (prog mix with down elevator)
Ch 9(aux 4 - nose wheel steering (prog mix with rudder)
Ch 10 - Rudder (lt) (prog mixed with rt rudd)
Ch 11 (aux 6) - lt nozzle (prog mix with stab)takes 2 prog mixes
Ch 12 (aux 7) - rt nozzle (prog mix with stab)takes 2 prog mixes

I wanted to use Prog mix to make it like the real Raptor and use crow and split rudders for speedbrakes but the nozzles ate up too many channels and pmix options. When I build the next one I am going to use standard nozzles and use the mixes to set up the speedbrakes. The stabs were set up as a delta wing type to get the required action. The ailerons were slaved to the aileron channel to get the roll. VT Nozzles were slaved with the stabs for both pitch and roll and are controlled by a switch for "on-off" control. I didnt have enough free channels to do independent ailerons, rudders and flaps to get the crow on all. The real Raptor only uses the nozzles in the pitch axis but I wanted both. I rarely use the VT as the jet flies great without it, looks good on the ground though when you taxi out flip the switch wiggle the nozzles. Hope this helps.

TP

Tom,

Thanks for the low-down on the programming.

Ddlstang,

Here's a pic of the tray with the proper UAT....

Hi,

So the VT Nozzles are installed and working now. Pretty neat. All of the servos are now in and all linkage hooked up. All reinforcements (some peace-of-mind, others just habit) are done. Tomorrow is going to be the situating and final installation of all pneumatic lines for gear, doors and canopy.

There's the K-170 that's going to power this baby. A couple of different views. She's starting to look MEAN.

Hi,

Yes, they sure can. The real F-22 does not use VT in roll axis, so I haven't set it up like that, but if the customer wants VT in roll, I'll program it.

Hi,

Thanks. Yeah, should be fun. If it can do half the stuff the real one can, it'll be one hell of a fun-to-fly airplane.

Shaun, this looks too much fun, what's the price for just the VT unit, like the one Shannon's got?
