Default Turbines & Smoke Systems

I wanted to see how many of you guys burn diesel for smoke fluid.

Does it put out good smoke?

Any negatives from running diesel through your smoke pump?

Thanks,
Mike

it will run through the pump just fine, just does not smoke too well ( compared to smoke fluid) .. there are oils (like concrete release ) you can mix with it for better effect .. can't hurt trying it and seeing if its to your liking.

works just fine, but not as dense as Super Dri smoke oil.

I've run concrete release oil and a 50/50 blend of ATF and diesel. the blends work fine at low speeds but at higher speeds they dissipate much faster than Super Dri.

cheap alternative for day to day use but Super Dri is the way to go when you really want to get your Smoke On

Yeah, I've been using Robart Smoke Fluid but hate paying $26 a gallon.

I hear lil fella. In a conversation with Tam a long time ago, I think we figured a typical flight with a mid-sized smoke delivery system was going to cost you around 9 bucks a flight. Great fun though and what the heck...it's a hobby and supposed to be fun.

cheers

As above, diesel will smoke, but it is thinner, and will dissapate quicker that superdri. It also stinks like #$&* if you get a lung full.
But it is cheaper, and if you are not trying to impress anyone special, it may be the way to go for everyday flying....

I just use diesel, I have also tried the powerbox smoke oil and the MT smoke oil and could'nt really tell any difference, it may have been my system, pump speed, injector position etc but I seen nothing to make me go out and buy "proper" smoke oil.
I have heard the genuine smoke oils dont leave any residue (on twin boom tails etc) but cant confirm.

For everyday flying I use concrete release mixed with diesel. 50/50.
For events, fun flys, picnics I use Super Dri. The concrete release is more grayish in color and dissipates a lot faster then the superdri.

For that really thick smoked look nothing beats Cannabis oil mixed 50/50 with Vodka.

We use Conosol 260 for smoke oil. It is costing us about 10 bucks a gallon and we buy it by the 55 gallon drum....

I love the quality of your oil and it's 'hang-time' in the air.

.... but I'm not a big fan of the price as I just dropped nearly $200 at Tower for two 5 gallon buckets, but you get what you pay for.... it's good stuff. [8D]

I 'burn' about $300 a year on smoke entertainment.

So MDW, what do you get for a 55 gallon drum shipped? I know what I pay for Conosol and I can live with 90% as good as SD for better than half the [email protected] 200 bucks for 5 gallons I would go broke...we smoked through 5 gallons just last weekend.

I very much appreciate your loyalty to flying with smoke as well as your gracious comments. I hope you can appreciate our position. We are fully aware that the freight issue is THE issue. Always has been. We have faced this issue since we started in 1989. But heck, we still are the best, cleanest, and safest smoke fluid available, and we have survived for 22 years. We are here to help the sport not just sell oil. If anyone has any ideas on freight let us know. Anyone have any ideas for color smoke that doesn't paint the cars in the parking lot? Let us know.

We are glad that you are flying smoke. We invite you to follow us on twitter as well as Facebook. We are currently updating our website. www.mdwaviation.com ( it is dreadfully old but you can find us) It should be updated so you can post comments as well as videos, fully price out an order etc. If you send us your email we will notify you when the new functionality is there.

please provide your full shipping address and we will price out a delivered price just for the fun of it.

Cheers
Bill

Super Dri smoke oil is in fact cleaner, safer, and simply the best.

Soon our website will have the capability for you to upload videos, comments, and place orders fully on line. Please follow us on facebook, you tube, and twitter. We will have a GRAND REOPENING after 22 years, when the website is rejuvenated. www.mdwaviation.com We will be having best video contests for free product. Stay tuned

You are starting to sound like a post bot.

No offense, but this nut was cracked long ago.
The last 55 gallon drum of mineral seal oil I bought cost me $275

It's your money people
