Hello jseppanen (and everybody),
I'll be interested by a ASK 21 ( 6.00 m) from Roedelmodell with my EvoJet 90, but they don't answer to my mail ??. I also mail to Schambeck for the retractable mount but no more response.
May be my english is too poor.
Can you tell me from wich manufacturer comes you retractable mount, how much do you paid it (is there options ?). The Schambeck website is only in German (especialy price list) an I don't understand anything.

Before you buy have a look at this video of the 5 m fox powered by Evojet 90. This is a great flyer and is nice and strong. Kits are available from PAF Flugmodell. Peter Adoph writes good english if this helps. He also replies quickly to emails.

I have just bought a 3.1 M glider for my small Sprite engine and am very pleased with the plane. Not sure about the Fox but the one I bought was made by Topmodel in Czech republic.

The glider I chose was the Swift TopModel S1 3.1m. It is a heavy plane at 5.5 Kg without fitting the turbine. However, it is very strong and a good slope soarer. It is fitted with a retractable wheel and airbrakes and I bought the De luxe version so it was almost ready to fly. I have 3.2 Kg thrust so quite a bit more than the P20. I think the P20 will struggle with the weight. Mine is nearly fitted out and I will report how it flies very soon.

John,
5.5Kg is a way too heavy for the P20. Top Models also makes a 2.75M Fox which looks like a good candidate, but I've already done a Reichard Fox with a Wren 44. Any other suggestions for a P20?

This Swift S1 from blue airlines is 2.5 m and very strong for slope soaring. May be a bit overpowered with a P20. Also bear in mind the Opus Jet from Paf flugmodell is now made for P20 but is blisteringly fast.

The fly fly Fox that Colin Straus flew the Kolibri on may be a suitable choice, but will need throttle management. His weight was 3.8Kg ready to fly. See RCJI review last issue.

I believe that gliders need between 1/2 and 1/3 thrust to weight ratio. They are very slippery and have very efficient wings so when they have built up some kinetic energy retain it much better then our scale jets without a lot of extra thrust.

I now have some information that may be of help to those interested in turbine powered gliders. I attach a photo of my Swift S1 which we flew tonight.

The plane weighs 7.0 Kg dry and I have 1.2 litres of fuel in 2 tanks one behind CG and one in front. Takeoff weight was therefore about 8.25 Kg. The engine develops 3.2 Kg thrust. Dave Wilde was my pilot as usual. Take-off was a problem because on our club grass field as the power was applied the nose was pressed into the grass slowing it down. We tried varying the throttle setting and came to the conclusion that was really needed was an extra wheel under the nose. It will not be exactly scale but that does not matter.

Once the plane was off the engine had enough power to make a reasonably rapid gain in altitude gradually building up speed. From then on the flight was mostly conducted at 50% throttle and at times even less than that. Full power was only used in loops and reversals. We managed loops rolls and nice large barrel rolls without any problem. The first flight lasted 8 mins and we landed with one tank nearly 2/3 full. Clearly we can have 10 minute flights.

We were delighted and had no issues other than the extra nose wheel to sort out.

Very Nice! When I did my Reichard Fox, I had the same issues with the glider nosing down at full power on takeoff and my solution was a nosewheel as well. I made mine dismountable. I wonder if this nose down syndrome is common to all turbine gliders?
In the photo, I still have a diffuser mounted. That robbed the turbine of too much power so it was deleted from the airframe. The incidence on the turbine was also wrong and it took me awhile to get it right. The Fox eventually flew and needed only about half throttle to fly. It weighed 14 lbs. with the Wren 44.
I just bought a 2.75M Fox for my P20, should be a POC setting it up after the larger Fox. More on this glider later...Cheers!

We had a couple of flights tonight and I have fitted the nose wheel that has solved the takeoff problem.

I have some video, sorry that it was a bit late and the light was not very good and many of the manouvers were done at height as Dave Wilde was starting to get used to it. Thanks to Steve Hart for the video.

No sorry I have decided not to produce them commercially, I just do not have the time and they are not easy to get 'just right'.

Hi I have just started to build my DG 303 from Paritech.
Would it be possable to post some pictures of your Dg 303 inside especially the AFT jet installation.
I have the aft jet and wanted to fit the evojet 160. Do you think this is too much. I am also a bit concerned that it will be too tight a fit.

all info will be greatly appreciated

Hello, I receive from Mr Schambeck a shema with a template of the doors for the AFJet on a Paritech DG303 (6m52) but I don't know how to upload this file/image on this forum.
Tell me how to do that and I'll try

Thanks for the template.
I cut and fitted the carbon frame for the aft. It works great. Now I see that the 160 will be a real tight fit in the frame and it does not retract far enough I need about 5 mm more.
I think I can change the mounting holes and drop it 5 mm down. The problem is even if I go for a 120 or 130 size turbine the diameter is 112 on 120 to 160. So I could go for a 80 or 90 but feel it might be a bit underpowered,
Any ideas will be appreciated.

If you haven't bought your turbine yet, Jet Central's Cheetah (31Lbs. Thrust) diameter is listed at 102.4mm. I don't own a Jet Central product but most everybody is happy as a clam with them.

Unfortunately I have a jetcat 160, evojet 160 and a few kingtech K80 turbines. I have seen the video with a 160 size turbine and it is amazing. The plane looks like it flies well with the 90N turbine but I would really like a bigger turbine.

Hi Alex,
I'm also in the process to build a jet powered glider (a ASK 21 from Roedel with AFjet Schambeck). The jet engine will be a Evojet 90.
I was last week end at the IMAA show in Montluçon (France) and I've seen a big Fox (7 meters from Paritech) with Ă* 160 turbine ...... it's too much, I don't understand why the plane does not explode in flight ..... its really too much. In my mind a 90 class is enought.
Do you had the same problem than me with german manufacturer ??? they are very very long to answer to my mail

Are you in Abu Dhabi from a long time ?
I've a good friend (who's also modeller) who was working in Abu Dhabi. He was very often on the flight field, his name is Pascal Moisan, do you know him ?

I spoke with Susanne at Paritech and she said that They recommend the 90 class turbines. I have a new Kingtech 80 kerostart so I will try it with this and then if I like it I will invest in an evo jet 90.
Luckily it is simple to change turbines on the aft jet.
Yes it was very long times betwen answers from Florian but their product is really worth the wait.
I have the Paritech DG 1000 with a Schambeck AFT Turbo and it works like a dream.
I have tried a few differant systems and I really like florians stuff.
I will start to post some pictures I am sure I should get it finished in about 2 weeks.
