For those looking to build a Grumania 727 (or any 727 for that matter), here is a really nice little website from a ''sim guy'' who did some research and work in making a ''simulated'' 727 look right. A lot of his observations and work can be applied to a nice 727 project.

RE: New large scale Airliner kits
Hello Props4ever - sorry do not know your name
You probably bought an early Kranz kit, I bought late, new, improved Kranz moulds that are almost unknown.Think the airfoil did not change as it was a good flying model with no nasty habits, but plugs/moulds have been made new. There is no way to use the strange, original airfoil of the full size plane and as long as the model is a good flying one , the thickness of the airfoil is not completely wrong, I don`t care.
I do not have the time to make all these airliners look 100% scale- they are for those who can live with the mistakes that they have.I have a personal interset in the 727 , had to buy all moulds together to get just this particular one for me. I build a model for my own use, make corrections where needed and be happy for what I have.
This is a fun project for me as I normally do scale fighters, I am tired of the enormous time investment I put into the fighters and a semi scale airliner is something like a reward for me.
The airliners are semiscale models and should be judged like this.I will kit them as easy and fast to build models for every days use. Those who are looking for a true scale airliner have to do little cosmetic changes or go for something else.
It would be good if did not need to repeat myself over and over again.
SEMISCALE AIRLINER !

There always seems to be high interest in airliner subjects to model with little commercially available...so I commend you on this undertaking. I do agree that the nose of any airliner subject needs to be as close as possible in outline as it is usually one of the most noticable attributes.

RE: New large scale Airliner kits
The most commonly missed and most annoying aspect of the 757 and 727 fuselages are the two different radius of the fuselage cross section. The dividing line is at the floor beam level. The passenger cabin has a larger radius than the cargo holds if that makes more sense.
In short, the fuselages are NOT round or even oval. In addition, if you are going to go to all the expense and trouble of owning/building a 10' long airplane, it should be as true to scale as possible.

What a beautiful 757! Is that one yours? Love the main gear doors.

The real challenge to these airliners is getting the main gear in a scale location so that you don't tear it out on a less than perfect landing as can be attested to in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e92H2VJbJ5s

Thanks! Is that one for sale? I have been considering building a 2 or 5 or 6 or 7....with several factors to be considered. The primary one is the ability to fit into an 8' pickup truck bed. I have been trying to source a MFG in China or somewhere where labor it cheap and the parts are nice....''Yellow Aircraft'' quality. I have always felt like there is a market for Boeing airliners. The other option is to try and build my own plug but the drawings are hard to find and I think someone that is setup to design and build RC jets, big ones, would be much faster and ultimatly less expensive than DIY.

RE: New large scale Airliner kits
Hi Guys,
A lot of people here are maoning about the nose section of the 727, what about the two spinners poping out of the above 757 jet engines?

I think it's great that Ilja is doing something different! The guys who moan the loudest about the scale infidelity are usually the guys who still wouldn't buy one if it was 100% accurate anyway. It's easy to say "I would buy one IF........" when the truth is, it just gives the impression that you support the idea, while giving you the good excuse to not actually support the work.
Airliners are one of those subjects that I always look at them and wonder, why would ANYONE want to build an RC model of one, I can't imagine a more boring airplane to fly, and yet, having said that, there is something about them that always has me wanting one. I think it must be something similar to the really really fat girl in a bikini, you can't imagine wanting one, yet there's something about it that won't let you stop looking, the car accident scenario LMAO.
Anyway, nose section right, wrong or otherwise, I think they look very cool, and for somebody like me who doesn't pay much attention to airliners, I think they look killer! I'm not going to lie and say I'll take a blah blah blah, but it's great to know that one day if I do decide I want one, there will be options for me

Not a finer flying jet was ever built. The mighty Swept Winged Douglas Racer Jet...Cables and pulleys...dial a flap...perf climb...-15 motors...an APU that could not generate enough air to blow out a birthday cake candle...ahhh yes...the Long Beach Sewer Tube.
If you could pave a runway that went completely around the world...I assure you that there is a flap/power setting for an MD-80 that will require you to use every inch of it...

Grumania offers a 727 kit for 1860 Euros (2450 US-$) plus shipping.
The 737 has disappeared from Grumania's site, an Airbus A340 is still announced (for 18 months now) but nothing happened.
Otherwise one finds only small foamies on the market for airliners.
Of course there are still the short kits from Rauch-Airliner.

Its been quiet about the 727 for a while as I had to concentrate on other projects. The 727 has meanwhile flown on some events during the last year and some kits have been sold. Here is a video that has recently been made at the JetPower fair:

The model is just under 10 kilos dry and is a real pleasure to fly.

Short kit (like Rauch) will be available and full composite model will be available also.
