Ok, So Jimmie ( Jetdktr ) asked me to look at servo loads so he can plan on his servo purchase. I downloaded the servo calculator that is available online in the past and have used many times so i am confident on its results.Taking in to consideration that we cannot go over 200 and more than likely will never see it with a plane like this; I still used 200 as the highest airspeed for the load cases other than flaps for landing at a full down speed of 100. The surfaces are big but not huge even with the enlargement and with an assumption of 15 degree of aileron, 20 degrees of elevator and 25 degrees of rudder at full speed; the rudder has the highest loads at 191 oz inches of required torque so lets use that number for all of the surfaces so the servos can all be the same. The loads of course go higher if you go faster or you want more throw. Watch the flap loads if you try and pull them down at a high speed which of course you should never do because you can get really high loads fast and also if you forget to pull them on a go around and go to full power with them down. Bottom line is anything you guys want to use over 200 oz/inches should be fine everywhere. I'm going to use 8411SA everywhere because I have a dozen of them laying around the shop.

Got really busy at work this week so not much happening other than Jimmie (Jetdktr) stopping by with a new project for me to help out on in my spare (LOL ) time. He got a great deal on an Electra ARF and asked he can put it together at my shop; since I built mine from a kit and his is missing the intructions and a few parts he will need to get from BVM. Jim has such little room at his house with all of the kits he has down there in the basment and we are such good friends that I said sure come on by anytime and use the shop. I think he is king at 178 kits, I'm down to about 50 or so waiting on retirement to happen for a lot of them.

If it wasn't for putting my two brats through school, I could have been the king. Hoping to get some building done during my recoup over the next two weeks.

Keith as a suggestion, I would remake the retract plate so they contact the front and rear spars. I had mine pul out on a cross wind landing early on with my std size one. I put them back in with a doubler plate that did just that and glassed the inside of the upper skin tot he ribs as well. 4 years of flying and no more gear plate issues. I remember the wood wing now as a fun build.

Got back on the planes this morning before heading off to work. Fitted the front gear hatches ( took just a few swipes of the sanding block to fit perfect ) to the openings. I also got the mounting plates in for the retention screws. I also found that we need to laminate a 1/16 sheet to one side the fin leading edge parts for them to fit tight into the rib slots. No big deal and once they are laminated it will just make it stronger. Will take and post pictures tonight once I am home.

Well, being sick all week was not fun and my pictures will not upload right now for some reason. I did get back on the build this morning and started to sheet the fins. If your sheeting is as hard as mine was to bend I would advise that you soak the sheeting in very hot water for a few minutes to get it to comply to the leading edge and the fuse contours. I then clamped and pinned them in place without glue so they can dry pre-curved to fit the fin and fuse areas. Once they dry there will be less stress on the sheeting than if you just bond them with pressure and CA. The goal this weekend now that we have 1-3 inches of snow and ice is to get the fuse top and fins sheeted by Sunday evening

I was hoping to get something done this week while laid up at home, no such luck. Finaly able to spend today on my feet but still only firing on four cylinders. Hope tomorrow brings more strength. Plan on getting the fuse ready for planking tomorrow.

Hope you are feeling better Ron.

Yea Bob this getting older sucks just like they said it would. LOL. Got back on it this morning and wetted out the skins I joined last night for the hatch to fin sheeting. They are clamped in place drying out now just like I did for the fin leading edges and I should be able to get them on today before the Ravens game comes on.

Got the first pieces of the fuse sheeting on and drying. Made a paste of sawdust and Titebond for a filet inside the fuse at the F-13 former location where the sheeting meets the fuse sides. The sheeting gets thin there when you sand it flush to the sides. I remembered this area from my std size one. Will try and sand the front back flush with the hatch break former so I can sheet the first hatch tonight before the Ravens game at 3pm.

Got back on the hatches and fuses this morning before work. Sanded back the sheeting on the first side of the hatch #1 and got the second fuses rear sheeting shaped. Pictures tonight.

Got home late; but I did get the second side of the main hatch sanded and the front sheeting on #1. I am just about as far as I can go without building the wing and stabs. Will finish up the second fuse this week before and after work and then on to the stabs and lastly the wings. Jimmy we are going to need a bigger van. LOL
