F-5 Freedom Fighter
Does anyone know where I might find a large Northrop F-5? I am looking for a new building project, and I haven't seen this bird around much. I would rather not scratch build it if someone has resources to make one, but I am considering making a mold for a large fiberglass F-5A, E, F...no B's (no twins, T-38 mods etc).
Scale documentation would be helpful, but I don't know where to look.
Thanks in advance.

Cressline
I have a kit for an F-5 that was made by Cressline models. The design was by Gary Mueller, per the plans. This is for single .91 power. I don't know what the status of Cressline is - or who else might have the molds. This kit looks pretty old. Anybody know what's doin with Cressline?
Years ago, when I first started working the flightline at JOD, there was a guy who had a twin F-5. That was a big'un. Nice plane. Unfortunately, the owner didn't know how to fly when one engine went down. Pulled the nose up until the plane was in a deep sink and punched the gear thru the wings more than once. Wish I knew where that kit came from though. I think that was before Liebetrau was on the scene. Similar size to theirs though.

There are three pics of one that was shared with me a couple of years ago. I think it is the same one from Europe.

I also will dive into one of these, when the funds come around, if the funds come around.

Matt,
That was F-20 not F-5 from Mach 2.2. Mold was splashed from a byron kit. Dorian Anderson is working with JHH for a large F-5 fully molded for twin turbines. Maiden flight around September. Saw the fuse, sweeeetttt.

Pawel Sagaidak in Queensland has a beautiful F20 mold for 91/Fan or turbine. It is 90" long. There is a picture of the plane in RCJet issueJune/July 1999 on page 44.

An update of sorts is in order,
Henry at HVN Models is "at it again", this time doing his savant thang with the Euro F-5. I don't have to say much, just go see the pictures on his website. Look close at just a few of the special touches Henry has done to the model. LE flaps, working aux air inlet, cockpit, gear doors. I hate him!

A little birdie told me shake downs should take place this Saturday, after that Henry will do the extra fine painting and detail work, then it will make it's public debut at Superman.
Way to go Sung and Henry!

RE: F-5 Freedom Fighter
Larry Wolfe, Jet Hangar Hobbies, is working on a large 120" long E-model. Coming from him, I'm sure the scale outline is well taken care of. I'm building his smaller, 1/8 scale F-5E. This is not a released kit, but we got a couple of fuselages for it. I'll use a PST 600 for power. See pics.
I'm sort of planning on a larger A model down the road, maybe for PST 600's. I have considerable amount of original Northrop engineering data and drawings for the a/c. I'm not sure when it's gonna happen, though, I have too many projects to finish.

RE: F-5 Freedom Fighter
I talked to Don kanak at Planes Plus about two weeks ago and he is the dealer for the Peter liebetrau F-5. It is the one seen in the photos in RCJI from The Masters. Thomas Singer, and Reto Senn flew it. I saw the videos it looks awesome. Im going to get one in a few months. they make a two seat F version as well. Its about 120 inches long all composite, panel lines molded in it looked gorgeous. Don said with the gear tanks and kit around $5000.00. Tam is making a pipe and scale nozzles for it. Don said he would have it at superman. I want one real bad but the eurofighter has to come off the bench first. I figure it will take Don about 6 months to work out all the kinks with the internals. Call him he was very helpful with it. You can see the aircraft on Liebetrau's web site. I plan on converting mine to a full scale Bicentennial year thunderbird T-38. Looks awesome.

RE: F-5 Freedom Fighter
Sung,
Have you flown it yet?
Can you tell me what you think, what he did different, etc....
I am seriuosly considering the two seat F5-F that Peter has. I have been wanting to do a real scale airplane for a while and, the T-38 is my all time favorite aircraft. Who did the gear, and where did he get those nozzles from? Im real curious to hear how it flies. I was talking to Don kanak about it, but he did not get enough flights on it to really say how it was. Im probably going to get one within the next 6 months, Im waiting for Don to figure everything out for all the tanks and stuff like that. I cant wait.

RE: F-5 Freedom Fighter
Sung, I'm also curious what mods were done. That kit is amazing. I've been curious about the scale quality of the Leibtrau kit becuase I've never seen one at any jet rally (and my German isn't so good)---from the pics though.....holy moly! That thing is awsome.
And Pete, if you get a quote, can you e-mail me offline?(don't want to step on toes) I'm very interested.

Some USN Aggressor F-5's also have the Swiss type "shark-nose" for improved high AoA handling. Check out: http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/f5dp_1.htm

PR38, there was a beautiful giant F-5 flown last year by Bryce Watson I believe it is a Libetrau kit. We saw him in Missouri around September. Unbelievable performance, the flight right at sunset was most memorable.
