Are still flying ducted fans also?

Seems like the more turbine flights I have, the less I want to mess with my D/Fs. But I can fly D/Fs at a club 10 miles from my house, to fly turbines it's 40 miles. I know...I know... some of you guys have to drive a lot farther than that to fly your jets.

Just wondering...................

If I ever go back it will be for a 40 size sport type as a kick around when it's raining at an event. If I never have to pull apart an OS91 again, I will be happy happy happy. That just plane (pun) sucks.

here we go again..... well maybe I don't fly turbines yet, but I love the sound of a ducted fan. How come everytime this comes up ducted fans are treated like b@st@#d children..... I mean come on we all love jets, I think some peoples attitude around here just sucks. I wish I had a shotgun sometimes too , I guarantee that if it were not for ducted fan flyers model turbines wouldn't be anywhere near a reality... Speaking of things that suck... how about those ugly turbine delta wing things with the engine sticking out on top, you know theres about 20 different types of them, and everyone thinks theres is different... yeah thats real cool. Talking about something sucking at a jet rally, everyone with the same plane, flying in circles thinking that there unique. Thats really cool..... .. guess my point is there's always something to step on somebody else about, we all don't like something, but what good is it going to do to put down your fellow RC jet brother.

as quoted from Rodney King

"Can't we all just get along"

P.S. any turbine guys looking to get rid of some of your DF "junk" cheap, let me know...

There's nothing worse than a listening to someone trying to tune a ducted fan right behind you while flying a turbine.... Like nails on a chalk board :stupid:
If turbines go away, so will my days of flying jets. I spent years playing with DF before I got into turbines but I would NEVER go back, they are those ******* children you wish you never had.
Mugen, while I agree with some of your comments.... I would take a beat up, crappy old delta thingy with a turbine (that runs ) over a pristine (whatever) ducted fan any day. Now by no means am I putting ANYONE down who flies them (actually I admire those who dare to tackle them) I just dont have the patience to fiddle with them any more..... Bet if you took a poll asking how many turbine fliers would go back to ducted fan you would not find many.....

Yeah, I was sooo tired with fiddling with those OS .91s. Just a pain in the a_s. Like Todd, I admire anyone that has the patience to do that on a constant basis. Long live the turbine!!!

$9000? I could put five Isobars in the air for that! (and there would be absolutely zero point to buffing any of them due to the lack of gloss on the Krylon touch)

Matt, watch it, I am almost one of those old dudes now.

Wow, what a friendly, engaging tone coming from a JetCat Rep., Matt... :boxing: You must be a prized sales asset for JetCat.

Around these parts, "we" still fly DFs - both electric and glow - along with turbines. It's all still fun and each segment has its own challenges and rewards.

Default I really wasn't trying to start anything.....

I was just wondering if my changing attitude towards D/Fs is normal.

I still like the sound of a D/F (except Byron pipes). The only thing that sounds better is a turbine. I started my OS.91 last weekend and then proceeded to install the hatch on the plane. It is held on with pins in the front and 2 4-40 bolts on the back. As soon as the hatch touched the plane, the 2 bolts vibrated out and danced all over the top of the plane. I forgot how much D/Fs vibrate!

Why is everyone on this forum so thin skinned? Way back before I flew jets, I owned a couple of pattern planes. I didn't fly competition, I just liked the way they flew. Several of the old guys in my club, told me they would rather watch paint dry, than watch me fly my pattern plane. I thought it was funny.

I have one of those delta wing ugly things according to the guy or
girl on post #4 at the next meet why dont you taxi behind me and
stop so I can check my brakes at full power If your D.F can climb out virticle maybe I will go back. A D.F is still always neet to watch fly but you have not flown a jet, to you fly a turbine powered aircraft one day you step up.

Aw...... come-on girls....... Lets just try to get along.....

Admit it, y'all used to think DF's sounded like real jets 'til the turbines came on the scene, dincha??????

I still have two DF OS.91s (One Byron fan powered F-15 & one Dynamax fan powered Interceptor)

I Am building another Interceptor with Ramtec/ OS.91. If I don't get a turbine for it first. LOL (I already have the Ramtec & souped up .91)

Working on another Mig -29 for Turbine, Have a Dragonfly finished (Waiting on turbine repairs for the next flight)

Annnnd....... a turbine Topcat...........Guess I'm '=ly' divided

klave, usually someone with the name Michael is a guy.... Back on Topic...
You have just proven my point. No one likes to get put down.... I'm sure I would trade one of my DF's for a turbine ugly wing in a heart beat, I'm well aware that the performance of turbines for the most part is better than ducted fans and when I have the funding I will definatly be taking the step up. I'm in college flying fans so you can bet when I graduate I'll have a turbine.

Thanks Matt for making my future turbine choice easier. I was debating Artes or Jet Cat. Now for some reason the decision is sooo much easier :-)

For all you ducted fan lovers please enjoy a nice smooth DF take off.
