Default How do you scale guys nail your pilots down?

I have just aquired a very nice scale cockpit for my JetLegend L39, I was using the stock tub so used tiewraps which were well hidden.

Although pretty the new cockpit interior is quite weak and I was wondering what is the best way to stop the guys from leaping out of the seats on manouvres! They are quite heavy cheapo chaps.

Thanks,

Gary.

Why not drill a hole in the seat bottom and glue their bare buns with shoe goop?

I just use locking wire as its unobtrusive as you can bend it to the right shape.

Ha ha, I really didn't want to damage the thing too much.

Hi Geoff, that sounds like good idea.

Thanks both.

I usually put a few screws up the pilots rear end through the bottom of the seat

You may need to laminate a couple layers of fiberglass to the bottom of the cockpit tubs to strengthen them. Thin wire through holes in the seat works well and is easily concealed, as others have suggested.

VERY SIMPLE : MAKE A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SEAT RIGHT IN BETWEEN THE UPPER LEGS . DRIVE A 6/32 " OR .... AND PUT A CROSS BAR ( I USED LONG PLASTIC SERVO ARM ) ON TOP OF THE LEGS . I PAINTED THE BAR TO MATCH THE PANTS COLOR. TIDE WITH A NUT AND YOU DONE. YOU CAN UNDO IN THE FUTURE FOR SERVICE . THIS WAY YOU DO NOT DAMAGE THE PILOT . ALL YOU HAVE IS SMALL HOLE IN THE SEAT.

I do the same. Sometimes I'll add a pce of 1/8 ply under the cockpit first to stiffen it if the plastic seems weak and brittle. Make sure you sit them up a little. So often I see pilots reclined against the back of the seat, even with their helmet touching the head rest. When do you see pilots like this (other than preparing to eject?!? Lol)? After all who drives their car with their head back against the headrest?? Play with he angle a little until satisfied.

Thank you Sean for your advice, duly noted. Thanks in fact to all you guys who replied with information, very much appreciated (You're never alone with a jet ) although I have yet to find a model shop in the UK that stocks scale harnesses.

A few pics attached, I ended up drilling small holes either side of the seats and inserting tie wraps to go over the pilots laps.

To make the shoulder straps work I simply tie wrapped these to the first one I fitted, looks not too bad, I am happy with it anyway.

Thanks again all,

Gary.

Scott, this is the guy, the price has gone crazy, I bought the last ones for about £18 each. They are a bit heavy but it suited the L39 as it was a bit tail heavy before the office was full.

Made by Mattel btw.

Vin, whats E6000? if it's a glue it's not available over here to my knowledge.

For the female pilots, some wine. A nice dinner. Maybe a show. Y'know, get em in the mood. For the male pilots, I stay away. No switch-hitting here.

Elmers on their butts.  Two cows wearing denim in an open cockpit Tiger Moth.  Real barnstormers.

You have to get some of this. It dries clear so it works great for canopies too.

E6000 is available here Gary, just search eBay for a quick source. It's also called Goop over the pond.

Gary, those guys are 1/7 scale and your L39 is 1/5 scale correct? Perhaps a pair of the 1/5 scale Skymaster pilots would work for you? Or these are similar, maybe better.

Well 1/6th if you are a shortarse like me Sean!

TBH these pilots fit the seats and cockpit controls perfectly, any bigger and I wouldn't be able to cram them in, certainly not in the seats thats for sure.
