RE: F-100 build from plans
I must say I am impressed to bits by the original model. By today's standards it is small, and with not a huge amount of thrust, yet it had a brake chute, rear bumper, jettisonable drop tanks, opening canopy, and leading edge slats though reading between the lines the slats were not radio operated but fixed in open or closed position prior to the flight.
Slats are not shown on the pictures of the plan further up this thread, I guess what Art Johnson did was cut the foam then use another modified root and tip template to cut the slats from it along the entire span, then cut off a root and tip from the slat and glue them back onto the wing to leave him with the slat? It would be great to have them servo driven since now we have enough channels and powerful small servos that just were not available in 1985. It could be a faff trying to get that into a foam wing, what are opinions about modifying the built-up wing to have slats?
Harry
PS Plan ordered, let's hope that we see several of these come to fruition and flying in the not too distant future!

Guys, a canopy for this plane should be no problem. I would guess you could talk Bruce at Century Jets , into selling you one that his F-100 uses. His F-100 is 67 inches and this one is 67 inches. His wing span is 57 inches and this one is 56 inches. Seems like a perfect match.

good idea Bob, in fact I will take 4 so that I have spares, some to cut as canopy frames etc. When ready, let me know and I will send payment. Much appreciated.

Bob- I have been having trouble with my computer at home. I recall getting an e-mail from you that didn't have anything attached. Can you send it again?

I have the original magazine featuring this model and a grainy video of Arts first flight and commentary. I sent a copy to a guy in the states a couple of years ago and threw away a set of wing cores recently when clearing my loft. Just one of those builds that got away, Ron.

Bob- called RCM just now. They have had some computer problems that are now resolved. The lady that I spoke with said both our plans will be shipping in the next day or so. We should have them by the middle of next week.
