RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
All doors are done. Here is a short video:

Well the air brakes are interesting. Absolutely no hardware included and since there are no instructions, I made own system. Seems very smooth and work surprisingly well.
One is done, the next one will be done later today .

OK here is the update.
Still need to Hysol and re-enforce the mounts but so far they seem to work very well.

RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
Small update.
The gear, tank and tail pipe arrived.
Again the design of the model is geared towards express install.
Some work is still needed to complete the gear setup, then onto Turbine, tank, radio equipment and canopy.
Scale cockpit back ordered for now
Today (Oct 25, 2012) the system has blessed me in allowing me to upload.

No I keep on getting: " 500- Internal Server Error - There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed."
Anyway, pictures are on RCCanada, a much more reliable and stable fourm but not as popular as RCU:

RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
I have not updated in a while, here are some pictures of the painted model.
Now the paint is done I can focus on finishing the L39.
I had installed a Behotec 180GE but might upgrade to the 220 not sure yet since it is the same mount, penalty is a slightly higher fuel consumption.
Will keep you posted as I progress.

RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
Small warning if you are building the C-ARF Skygate L39, the Aileron ROD that holds the hinge system is not fixed and slides out by itself.
I was putting the finishing touches today and saw the rod slipped out inside the wing.
Make sure you fix it in place otherwise it might slip out in flight and you will loose the Ailerons.
(PICS are not loading if you need to see what I am talking about I can email them to you)

RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
has anyone had problems with the original elevator control setup? C-Arf changed this completely. Mine is from Skygate not Carf
Been moving too much these days but hope to get back into building again.
Cheers

RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
What kind of problem you are referring to?
Mine came togther farily well, needed to dremel out some wood formers to allow the push rods to come through in a straight line.
Keep in mind the brass hinge rod ends protrude beyond the end of the elevator flying surface (left and right tips).
I cut the tube to length and hysoled it in place.
Again no manual still more than a year after release of the kit so have to improvise.

RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
Have not updated in a while but the L39 is almost done.
Just some final touches and calmer winds to test fly.
Lexon lights are very bright, very happy about that.
Gear sequence all done. Electric gear doors and spoilers, air landing gear.
This is the first time the L39 moves on its own power.
The L39 is 118" - 3m long and 93" - 2.37m wing span.
Weight is 44.5lbs dry including 1.75lbs of nose weight to get the CG right.
Tank is 5.2L or 8lbs making it 52.5lbs wet.
Power is Behotec 220, 50lbs of thrust which has a size and weight platform of a typical 27lbs turbine.
This L39 should be a lot of fun.

RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
looking forward to seeing the maiden with the 220 and see what you think. I was considering a P200SX for mine.
Mine is an older kit from skygate. Not sure how much different the air frames are aside from the elevator linkage.
If/when you add a full cockpit would that effect the nose weight you added?
cheers

RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
Thanks
I am not using the C-ARF full cockpit, but yes a little however not enough to compensate for the tail heavy design.
Does your kit come with any CG and travel recommendations? Skygate and Tomahawak design their kits to be almost perfect with no nose weight needed but not C-ARF.
I do not have good info from C-ARF on this but I have contacted other manufacturers who make a 1/4 scale L39 and have some typical travel and CG info.
The CG that C-ARF is suggesting it too nose heavy, I needed 1.75lbs to get to the CG C-ARF is recommending in pictures below (which server is not allowing me to load due to internal error)
So after careful investigations I am moving the CG back to where the leading edge of the wing tube is.
Travel recommendations (NOT FROM C-ARF they told me they DO NOT have travel info):
Elevator: +30/-25mm 30% expo
Aielrons: +25/-27mm 40% expo
Rudder: 50mm
Flaps: 70mm
CG location: I am putting it on the leading edge of the wing tube, and I can go back 10mm behind that.
if I can upload pics I will.
Email from C-ARF:
CG of Albatros:
See photo, between the red and blue dot, preferrably towards the blue, but this does require additional weight in the nose.

RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
I think I got one of the last kits from Stephan Voelker and he supplied me with a ton of images and a manual. He was having a hard time so I was not able get everything back then.
I will be able to get you the CG but it will be a while. I'm headed to LA for three months and when back, I will be able to get you what I have via PDF. Sorry it can not be sooner.
PM me and I will email them in .Zip format when I'm back.
I actually heard that compArf made it heavier to be up to their standards. I guess the CG was not an initial concern at the time.
When I received mine years ago from Skygate! I looked it over and found it to be very well thought out and rugged where it needed it.
I'm hoping with it being lighter than the Carf and just as strong, a P200SX will be a good balance thrust/weight wise. I'm still kinda undecided on turbine though.
Your JB220 is basiclly a P200SXin a small can, That is amazing. I just don't know anything about Behotec.

RE: Skygate C-ARF L39 build thread and virtual manual
Thanks but I should be test flying within the next week or so.L39 is ready
Travels adjusted
CG set to 160mm, 25% gives level attitude with 550gr (instead of 810 gr nose weight), total weight 44lbs dry, plus (5.2Ltrs) 8lbs of fuel, 52lbs wet.
If it turns out tail heavy will re-visit CG.
