Default Tamjets 1/8 F-16

The instructions show a heat shield (a half cylinder shaped piece of metal) installed just beneath the turbine. I did not receive this, & can't recall ever seeing one. Anyone flown without it?
Thanks, Jay

Yea, I didn't use mine... It will work just fine, there is plenty of room down there as long as your install is neat and don't have wires and airlines going everywhere, if not you may want to use it, or something to protect the lines from touching the engine.

You can just go to your local hardware store and pick up some tin, aluminum, sheet metal, etc and cut a piece to fit. I found it very effective in reflecting heat from the area. Incidentally, you could probably use a soda can for that matter.

lowes or similar, go to roofing section and get a small piece of aluminum flashing. make a template out of paper first, then just trace it onto the flashing and cut it out. works great for about 2 bucks.

Thanks guys, I may do the sheet metal thing, but really don't want any uneccessary weight. The install's super neat, not really worried about the airlines, & only 2 servo ext beneath the turbine (rudder & strobe light). I'll do extensive taxi test, & if alls well, I think I'll save that weight

That heat shield weights absolutely nothing. I think mine came out at 10 grams. I made a template and added one as it can get hot in that area. It may work without it but you KNOW it will work better with it.

Flashing is super light. I melted my air lines a couple of times before installing the shield. Use it on every single F-16 eversince.

OK, there it is.. I will definitely install something. I'll go to home depot in the roofing section & see what I can find. A large beverage can (i.e. Arizona Tea) sounds interesting. I wonder when is aluminum too thin? do you guys coat the inside with anything? maybe BV's paint on heat shield

bare aluminum is fine.... it is very effective in protecting the lower fuselage when you get a hot start....
