I heard some guys in eastern Canada were dropping the Behotec 180's in the smaller Scorpion with no problems. Your Wren will fly it fine but if u want the speed then u will want to upsize the powerplant. I think you would be better off with a 180 class engine than going to a big block like a P200 with all the extra weight and fuel consumption

RE: Who can tell me the good and not s good about Aviation Design Super Scorpion
I've got one of the first scorpions Peter at altecare brought in powered by the regular behotec JB-180 and radared it at 180mph. The plane feels very solid in the air and is an absolute joy to land WITH PROPER CG. My cg is on the backside of the strut which is a trailing type. It weighs about 27lbs after I painted it and about 35lbs with full 4 ltr tank. I get over 10 mins. with that tank and I use a lot of power. With this setup its got unlimited vertical on takeoff and still comes in farely slow with the extra weight. The plane needs lots of down elevator for inverted flight and knife edges farely well with no coupling but full rudder deflection at stock throws. I use flaps and airbrake for landing since it wants to float using just flaps with the 180, with the airbrake it seems to plant itself down much better. Much different plane from my bandit and like others have said you need to go with a bandit or flash if you want real speed.

You guys that own the SS.... Are you running 2servos per elevator like the manual shows, or are you running one servo? What servos do you have in it?

For me, I don't care about going 200mph. I just have the 200SX available and the SS would seem to be a good large airframe for short field landings.

I only open in full going straight up when in rout 66 and the fastest 3/4 in straight and I think it was fast ,the straight up was super till of side and the banana pass super stable on knife age .

I had ones an couple years ago, and tried it landing without flaps.....it seemed to be no problem....from the thread, it sounds like most are landed without flaps. Is this correct? Please email me set Kmay21@ aol.com

I land mine (standard scorpion with Booster 130+ for power) with full flaps, and on shorter fields with airbrake as well. the flaps do partially block out the elevator, so mix in a little extra 'up throw' to smoothen the flare....
no flaps on TO. It makes the nicest takeoff ever, just don't be tempted to release the 'up elevator' right after TO, or she'll be back on the deck in no time.... I keep some up elevator right into the first turn.
wonderful plane in my opinion, speed envelope is perfect for me. no rocket indeed, but there are other planes if that's what you're after....
