N2O NITRUS NEW JET PROJECT
Hallo to all
It's been some time I was thinking about a jet plane ,I wanted something different that handles good and can do some aerobatics.
The actual design was not formed in my mind until browsing some Burt Rutans designs the idea struck me !
I immediately took a piece of paper and started drawing .The powerplant is available and HOME MADE by a good friend Evangelos Pashaloudis with 150N of thrust. The wing span is going to be 2.4 meters and the fuselage about 1.8m
Here is the first approach with a small balsa model ..

Here is some progress on the canopy ,it took a while but came out quite nice I think.

Hallo jetman Hristos ! ,how is cooking ?
Yes F3A ,it's here http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11071888/tm.htm
just doing something different this time
here is a pic of the drawing of turbine as given by the builder Evangelos
I'll upload some pics of the actual turbine when I take them ,it's currently on a test stand and being run.
cheers
Elias

RE: N2O NITRUS NEW JET PROJECT
Here is the complete fusselage design.
For the jet inlet at first I was thinking about naca ducts at the LERCS section ,but later decided not to ad the complexity and the extra weight.

Hello Elias! One of my favorite aircraft, and designer! You will be cut it in foam or you will be make a mold? Good luck with your new project !
I love canards!
Here is some videos with Burt Rutan designs http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...JXBJ4_ejUPaGYd
And here is my Shinden story. I have start also my new Shinden.

I'm sorry for your shinden Argyris better luck next time with much less throws !
Back on the design ,here is the final shape ,the wings and canard have a low drag symetrical airfoil ,there has been an extensive search for the foils before the drawing started .XFLR software showed the polars of the particular foils to be more than adequate for low speed flying for safe landings and low drag for high speed .This design by definition was not intended for speed braking records but I think it will be fast enough for some exciting flying, will see..

RE: N2O NITRUS NEW JET PROJECT
That is a very nice design, but ...
it will be almost impossible to balance it, even if you'll increase the canard's area and take them into account when calculating the needed CoG (TVC and all), with the swept back wing you'll need to locate your CoG at a very backward position, and with the length of the fuselage, the weight of the canards and the nose gear, it will be very difficult.
try punching in the numbers into the CAD software that you use, it will help determine the balance point.
anyway, i just love seeing new ideas and designs comes to life.

Detail of the wing ,the final fin configuaration is not yet defined ,it's possible that it will end shorter on the lower side and some area will be protrudind on top of the wing ,the reason for that is that the fins are intended to be used as landing legs as well .There are several problems that have to be solved first with this configuration with one being a retractable or and dampening system ,will solve that later.
For now there is the moulds making procedure ,lots and lots of work. :-))

Interesting design, but are the fins really sticking DOWN from the wing?? How is it ever going to get close enough to the ground to land?
I would suggest that you make a small hand launch glider version using your proposed planform, and experiment with CG position on that. Once you have a stable CG position you can place the main gear a little behind it (10% of MAC). Then investigate how tall the U/C needs to be when level, and also in takeoff and landing nose up attitude. You will also get anidea of how long the noseleg has to be.
Considering a few little practical details like these may make you alter some aerodynamic ideas.

Nicos thank you !
Alasdair ,I think you comments are spot on ,I'm also thinking the same as you ,small model has already flown and is fun to fly !
Note that the fins are the landing legs in this config.Just did not draw any wheels etc yet.Probably as said before will end up with half fin up and half down or so.
For the moment I like to see it like this ,it stimulates my imagination !! :-))
thanks for the comments
cheers

Next is the sectioning of the moulds ,I'm lucky enough to work with Haas 3axis mill for the metal industry. However the milling dimensions are limited so the moulds and prototypes have to be sectioned.Fuselage mould is going to be epoxy-fiberglass with an MDF prototype.Wings, canards and fins moulds will be made with MDF, primed and sealed with epoxy.
Canard mould is already in progress..
Here are a couple of pics.

Hallo ,here is some of the wings and fuselage milling.
The top fuselage stock material weighted about 90-100kilos !
Note the window of the enclosure had to be removed for machining.
