Default Jet Guys in Manila?

I am in Manila. Flying a Caravan Amphibian to/from an island resort. Probably be here another 3 weeks.

If I get the time, I sure would like to meet up with some fellow jet flyers...and maybe get a recommendation for some hobby shops in the Manila area.

I thought I was going to be here last year and made some contacts but the aircraft wasn't ready so I never made it here.

My employer gave me a cell phone but I don't know the number, yet.

Here are links for the resort if you'd like to see where I'm flying.
http://www.humaisland.com/

https://www.facebook.com/pages/HUMA-...t/219281816548

http://www.destinasian.com/countries...island-launch/

The bad thing about this is that I was really hoping to make Mississippi Afterburner this year via my RV-7...can't happen now.

Really hope to hear from the Manila Area contingent!

Bob

Any help at all?

I'm trying to reestablish with the jet guys but any R/C Aircraft flyers, clubs, etc. will do.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

I am often traveling to the Phils for business. There are no jet pilots there, and RC activity is rather limited mostly to R/C cars and a few foreign heli pilots, I was told.
There used to be a RC shop in the Ayala/Glorietta Shopping Complex, in the building opposite to the Dusit Thani Hotel, but this whole building is now under reconstruction, hence closed for a while.
Do not expect much of it, at all, prices were very high compared to anywhere else, and most boxes and parts only seemed to be collecting more dust year after year.
Enjoy the resort instead, the Phils islands are beautiful and the people utmost friendly (and terrific singers !). [8D]

Thank you, Nicolas!

Is it possible to survive the Manila traffic? LOL!

It is.
Been there some 100 times now, and still alive.
All you need in the Makati traffic is patience, and trying to ignore the one million times per mile they use their cars' horn for nothing.

PS. Try the lapu-lapu fish and the local fresh mango fruit. Just divine.

Nicolas.

there is jet flyers in manila. I personally know them all. I have a bvm mig-15 there which I flew during balloon fiestas. the most active jet flyer is toti Alberto, he is the owner of ducat Philippines. his shop is located in cubao, Quezon City . go there and he will be keen, I'm sure. he flies many very nice big jets. however they do not fly in manila but at woodland air park in magalang. 1.5 drive north on the NLEX.. if your plane has wheels you can even fly there. the club there do giant scale, jets and ultra lights.

Alaska Bob, Nicolas
Yes... there are turbine guys in manila.... actually i think we're the only turbine guys in the Philippines we're just coming off a holiday week so no one was actually online to see the thread Oistein drops in from Norway a few times a year to fly with us, but for turbine flying, its just TotiDucati, myself and a few other people who actually fly turbines.
We did fly this week... we have a FB page and lots of pics of 3/27-28 jet A burning.. on a hot but cloudless and beautiful day! We fly in Magalang, pampanga which is 1.5 hrs away to the north of manila.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/186069131439001/

http://youtu.be/VvkdJRvOitU?t=2m21s
For turbine stuff... Hobby shops here arent worth it... its cheaper in every other country... and the selection isnt worth talking about. We normally get our equipment/supplies when we travel abroad and bring them home or we order online... In general, reputable electronics (Futaba, JR etc.. etc.. are more expensive here)
But for foamy planes and stuff from china we've got a few stores and they sell for quite decent prices in manila in comparison to HK, SGP etc....
I just got a 2meter EPO glider from WillysRChttp://www.willysrc.com/located in the manila bay area... for about 90 USD... which i use for Rx range tests. There are other smaller shops that sell helicopters/planes/multi rotors/cars etc.. etc.. but prices will generally be cheaper in the US....
PM me if you've got any questions and we can see what we can work out while you're in town.
Regards
Rob

RCphilippines is the local Flyers website...  http://www1.rcphilippines.com/forum/index.php

There a lots of groups that fly RC's around manila...  just south of manila in cavite there are 4 or more groups that fly on weekends which is just maybe 20-30 mins away from the manila bay area....  i fly with two of these groups when i cant fly turbines as they are 30 minutes away....  foamy planes,  helis of all sizes and cars...  There are also groups to the north of manila and in the provinces....

Nice and beautiful place Bob, welcome to the Philippines and hope you enjoy your stay…!

Been in the Philippines also and I flew my former Falcon 120 at Cavite. Manila is a place where I mold up my dreams and aspiration in life…
Here’s our video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhvSFBzholM
At 4:46 is an overseas specialist working at Hitec Manufacturing Plant in Cavite.

Following video is only takeoff but piloted by the president of the club:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q1eHxorPUE
Now they have much bigger field and longwer runway.

Oistein is a very big help in the development of turbine jets in the Philippines. Toti is one of the pioneering and has a lot of bigger scale jets flying in Magalang, Pampanga. There’s also an airline captain working overseas who travel a lot back in the Philippines and fly different scale jets including F-18 Hornet and the bigger generation of BAE Hawk. I’ve seen their video mostly flying at Magalang and sometimes at provincial airport. Rush is also a turbine pilot...

I guess one can get away with a post like that if one pays for the pizza...which, of course, Erwin did! I was fortunate enough to also meet his beautiful wife, Ann (Anne?). She is obviously much too good for him.

Hi rc bob! Apologies for not being able to meet up with you I'm at the Bacolod bike convention
Now and have a visitor from Austria.

Hope to see you next time,I get to fly with Rush the only active turbine pilot here and with Øistein
When he visits me, his BVM Migs'is hangar is my house.
Øistein is my jet coach so my flying progressed rapidly.
This is a video of my T-33 with Øistein .

Some really great jet guys here in the area. I've been hanging with "PLANEINSANE1", "toti", and "Rush". Thanks to PLANEINSANE, I have also had the opportunity to meet other R/Cers who have let me fly their planes.

PLANEINSANE1 has taken me all over Manila and I've had dinner with toti and his wife who were very gracious hosts.

Here is a link to some photos taken by some of the passengers I have transported to the resort.

http://www.rajolaurel.com/blog/?p=37294

I'll be here for less than 2 more weeks. The jet modelers here have been fantastic.

THANKS, GUYS!
