Skymaster 1/7.5 F-4 build, help needed

Hey guys,
over the winter i decided to give myself a little gift and got hold of a SM F-4 in 1/7.5 as ARF Pro with all accessories. Not very happy with overall fit and quality, and currently i am having issues installing the cockpit. I have taken out about half of the rear former to move the entire cockpit as far aft as possible, but feel the seat position should still be further aft.

Main problem however is the servo mount on the Nosewheel. It will press the entire cockpit assembly about 1/2" up....gear retraction therefore is only possible without the cockpit in place.

Sadly there are no instructions available as to placement of the components, so i have no idea what i am doing wrong, or if there is a design flaw in there somewhere.
I'd be glad to see how you guys worked this out.
Many thanks
Hank

Great selection Hank. My SM F-4 is headed into it's 5th season. On the nosewheel steering servo, you'll need to notch the cockpit tub somewhat to permit the servo mount to retract totally. When the pilot is installed in the cockpit, you can't see the notch.

Ahhh so it is an uncorrected design flaw. Thanks a lot, i'll get out the dremel tomorrow and do some corrective work. A lot of work to go into this "ARF", but i hope in the end it will be worth it...
Thanks again for the superfast response!

You won't be sorry, the Skymaster F-4 is a real joy to fly. I had about 30+ flights on mine before trying to move a tree out of the way. Needless to say, that was one of a few challenges that I lost. Enjoyed the plane so much, I might replace the airframe. Good luck with yours and "Watch out for those tree."

I love mine. It's got over 100 flights and still going strong. Yes you will have to trim the front of the cockpit tray. See pic:

Also, check your wheels. Mine didn't have washers over the bearings, just the nut. One day on take off the bearing gave way and the wheels came off. Be sure and put washers on both sides of the bearings to prevent this.
