French Rafale getting ready for top gun
#26

Mine is a BVM powered by a Behotec 180 Gold. Here is a pic: Since Kramer painted in the AMT I guess I'll leave it. God rest his soul! Jim lovingly calles it the "Skittles Rafale" lol. I like the theme. You don't see many sport themes one these.

Andy the jet is one of a kind and looks so good ,I will try to find the missing skittles logo big sticker for the wings and belly to make Jim proud of the name ,one day you will find one to make nice scale jet just like the f-4 and the fancy f-86 .look at some skittles

I would go for the highest thrust to weight ratio you can get.
I have only flown twins, and the one i have here runs on two cheetahs (62 pounds of thrust). Not sure is a lot heavier than the single mammoth, but vertical performance is amazing, and the way it goes from high alpha to vertical is just insane. My dad flies his back home on two kt180's :-0
What is the thrust on the behotec?
Please, measure the wall thickness on the wing tubes. The initial kits had thin walled tubes and cant take the thrust of the newer engines. BV can set you up with thicker ones if you have the thin ones. I don't remember the right thickness, but I will measure it when I get home and let you know
Enjoy your plane

Thanks for the heads up on the tubes, will check tomorrow. Wanted to know if the bifurcated tail pipe would be up to the task to handle todays high thrust turbines?
The behotec 220 is rated at 50lbs thrust, and weights in at just around 1.7 kilos. Would save around 800 grams between the Mammoth and Behotec.
If this plane performs well with twin 180s, then 800 grams more should not affect the flying characteristics.
Will stick with the Mammoth, as most of my other fleet is Jet Central.
Thanks
Chatty.

The good thing about going single is that you have a lot of fuel available. Fuel is a big limitation on the twin with big engines (6 minutes tops, with throttle management)
You will love it
I think we should talk Dustin to look into a limited production run? I hear more and more interest on this plane

Hi Jim
Don't know why we have the same interest but anyway. I am also busy building a BVM Rafale. This is still a big project ahead but I am very anxious about it. I will follow your thread closely. I may build a second aircraft for 2017 JWM. Good luck to you at TOP GUN.

Hi Pierre,
Great to hear from you and say hello to the SA team for me. Will you begoing to Germany in 2015?
Congrats on building a BVM Rafale; I've had a lot of fun flying mine. Both Andy Andrews and Scott Harris who you met in Switzerland have BVM Rafales too. Scott and I had a lot of fun at the Winamac event flying ours together. A couple more friends also have them and we are hoping to put 5-6 of them in the air together at Route 66 Jets in September.
Here is a video of Scott Harris and I flying our BVM Rafales together starting at 12:09. Scott's has the refueling probe in front and is a twin. Mine has the drop tank, lights, and white wingtips.

Hi guys,
I saw Franz Walti fly the original at Wroughton in 1997 and have always harboured the desire to own one. I remember he had an AMT Olympus in his and have been thinking that I should put my Oly into one. Can one still buy this model?
