Although I'm using different and more heavy-duty HV servos for all other surfaces, I was thinking about using a lighter and smaller servo (still HV capable) for the Rudder because that may allow for less modification during installation. However, I obviously need the servo to be strong enough to withstand high speed and aerobatics reliability.

What do you all think of the Hitec HS-5070 servo for use on just the Rudder?

Thanks Horsefeet. I ordered 7 Pro Modeler DS-100DLHV servos for the remaining servos left that the kit requires (with one to be used for the Rudder), but then figured I would see if I could find a Rudder servo that is slimmer and allowed for an easy drop-in fit. I looked at those MKS servos and almost went with them, but reviews in some instances were a hit or miss from friends, and although I have no experience yet with the Pro Modeler I am curious to see how good they are for their price ($40 each). The servos that came with the kit I have running off a two-port regulator (to 5.2V) with one port being utilized for the retracts and doors, and then the steering servo. I'll definitely check out those KST servos. I've never used those either.

I used Hitech D85MG all around, I had to open the holes slightly with a file to fit them.

I installed DS100 promodeler servo in my 339. Very impressed! Also installed the new Sub Micro DS 105 in my FlexJet fantastic performance and they feature a 6mm output shaft using a std size servo arm and they have the slow start feature too.

You may consider the BLS3270SVi Futaba servo as well. https://futabausa.com/product/s3270svi/

It's HV and fits very nicely on the provided rails with just a hint of sanding on one block to fit in the existing cutouts. I have it on my rudder and can easily climb in knife-edge and I actually used one on the nose gear steering as it is a literal drop-in fit. This allows you to run a single voltage regulator for the sequencer (gear and gear doors). I like to regulate the rest of the HV servos down to 7.2V for consistency in power delivery and transit time as well from the 2S 8.4V. Futaba does sell (as well as others) an inline 5.0V regulator that you can place after the receiver and before the sequencer to just regulate the sequencer down and not effect everything else.

I was wondering if everyone was utilizing their receiver battery to run the electric retracts? From what I have read it seems so...
The provided sequencer "should" provide current limitation in the case of a stuck gear so it does not drag the rest of the voltage supply down to the receiver.

I was considering running a regulator to the sequencer and powering from the ECU battery, so in the case if something went terribly wrong with the chinese controller, the worst that would happen is a turbine shut down which is better than loss of control if the receiver was disabled...

Thoughts?

The individual retract motors shut down in the event they hang up.

Rich Jeti sells a nice Inline regulator. HH used to sell the perfect unit for these model with two input/Outputs VR 5203 but discontinued it!

Thanks Bob. That is great to know. Mine are being delivered tomorrow and am looking forward to trying them.

Thanks! I'll check that servo out as well for the rudder. I don't mind modifying something to fit, but if I can find something that works great and doesn't require modification or much of it, I'm liking it. Ha-ha

I have them in three jets now, really like these servos. Extremely well designed and built, performance is as good or better than any other servo out there.

For the regulator for the gear doors, retracts, and nose steering, I purchase the following Western Robotics Dual Step-down thart I found online when trying to find something simple like the old Spektrum dual Step-down regulator they used to sell.

In my Sebart 339 I had to place a thin balsa shim between the servo and the cover, otherwise it fit perfectly.

Was that with the Pro Modeler servo? I wonder if it would be the same on the Avanti regards to fitment.

Yes on both models, but the cover is larger on the 339. The shim spaces the servo away from the flange on the fuse.

What shims are you referring to?

Only the Rudder servo may need a shim to space off the cover slightly.

MOST important on the 339, is the CG is WRONG. Go NO further back than 8 cm from where the wing meets the fuse. Adjust from there

Mine flies wonderfully. Very precise, tracks like it is on rails!
