Default West texas jets - 2015

Time to put up a thread about our West Texas Jets meet. It'll be the first weekend of October. (2, 3, and 4) Actually, many pilots arrive Thursday afternoon and start the flying which is fine with us. As before, this will be a very low key, fly as much as you can type event. Wide open spaces, covered pit areas and lots of jet flying buddies to talk it up. We'll have a dinner at my house on Saturday night that is FREE to pilots and their families. Each year, we have grown this event and would really like to see some regional jet pilots come fly with us. The Okies are planning on coming and were the life of the party last year. Really enjoyed them a bunch as well as many from the Austin and DFW areas too. I'm posting our flier here and it'll be on the RC Flight Deck. You should be able to sign up on RC Flight Deck also within a few days too, if not already. This is a NON Football Texas Tech weekend so our hotels will be empty along with the restaurants. Our field has been resurfaced this year and we are also lengthening it next week so it'll be 50x800 but over runs as far as you can see since it's a closed down full scale airport. As before, we'll have three trophies, Pilot's Choice, Best Scale Flight and Top Gun. If you have anything from a small Elite electric Fury all the way up to an Ultra Bandit (or bigger), please consider us for your out of town jet rallies. We'd really appreciate the visit...

I can get Jet A from our local airport. Just let me know how much you'll need. No electrical out there but we have three to four generators that'll be running out there all the time. Hope you can make it!

Will do. Most of us have switched over to diesel here. I can easily get Jet A at my full scale airport and will do so

Looking forward to it Mark. How's the B-1? Have you been flying yet or still in transition?

Ok gang! Warbirds over West Texas is in the books. Everybody had a great time with probably the best weather I've ever seen at any rally before, 72 degrees and light winds down the runway. Now that its over, it's time to concentrate on our upcoming Jet Rally the first weekend of October. The field is clean, lengthened/totally resurfaced, smooth and FOD cleared away. Our field is now 1100 feet long and 50 ft across, new safety fence and covered pit area for the visiting jet pilots. Our club members will set up their own tents next to the covered pit so you all don't have to set up yours. We'll have two restroom port a potties on site and camping is allowed but no hookups. A few of our club members will camp out so you can leave your trailers on site and not worry about them at the hotels. We've already had a special price negotiated at Super 8 with Bryan McLarty's help. We'll make sure it's in place for the Jet Rally too. (SUPER 8 Motel on I-27 in Lubbock for as low as $55.50 per room if you book two or more nights! You can't beat that with a stick! Here is the Hotel Link to book. You can book online or call the Hotel directly at (806) 771-8000!

Many people will start arriving Thursday afternoon and fly Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You're more than welcome to also fly all day on Sunday too but most people pack up and head home using that as a travel day. We use RCFlightDeck for registration but you are welcome to register right on site if that's easier. We just really want a great turn out. Haven't decided on the food selection at the dinner/trophy presentation at my house Saturday night but it'll be great. My wife always go wild with this so we'll have some fun.

Now, if you could do me a favor and just mention that you'll be coming on here, we could start making plans for food, etc. Each year we've grown and hope this year is the same. We'll hopefully have 28-35 pilots with a relaxed atmosphere, just flying, fun and seeing old/new friends.

Thanks and looking forward to seeing all of you again

John S Johnson

Hey Guys, Great News!!

West Texas Jets has secured the addition of a super BBQ caterer for all day Friday (Oct 2) and Saturday (Oct 3) who will be serving breakfast burritos and other bkfst foods, as well as some "out of the world" BBQ brisket sandwiches and plate lunches. In addition, he will have sausage wraps, hamburgers, desserts, and many other foods to tickle your taste buds. He catered our last warbird meet, and the food was super. If you don't come for any other reason, you must come for the food at the field.

In addition, our CD is hosting a Hamburger cookout for all pilots and their spouses (support crew as well) at his house on Saturday night. No charge for the cookout, so make plans to come have a great time with us this year.

We have a new extended runway and pilot barriers now. The runway is a little over 1100 feet by 45 feet wide with smooth overruns on each end, so there is plenty of room to fly all you want.

Make plans to come have lots of fun and good food with us on October 1, 2, 3, 2015 at the West Texas Jets for 2015 at our field located at the old Abernathy Airport in Abernathy.

We will have security 24 hours for Thursday night, Friday, Sat, and Sunday, so you can be assured your equipment will be looked after overnight.

Ya'll come on over and let's have a party!!

See Ya there!!

There's been some question as to when the meet will occur so I'm writing this just to clear it up. We will have people on site starting October 1st Thursday afternoon (many will be flying). Full days flying on Friday October 2nd and Saturday October 3rd with dinner at my house that night. Some flying Sunday October 4th and will be a travel day for many out of towners. Hope this clears it up some.

Long term forecast is showing highs in low 80's and lows in the lower 60's. Almost perfect weather. Winds have been pretty light the last few weeks so they're settling down before the November blow. Also, we're leaning towards something Italian style for dinner. It'll be a surprise!

Hey John, some of the Okies will be coming down Thursday. When I called the Super 8 to reserve rooms, they had no idea of what I was talking about. The young lady I spoke to didn't know of any special rates. Anyway, looking forward to another good time with you guys. Don and Dave may be flying down for Saturday. Doc

Sounds great. Really looking forward to hooking up with the Okies. We set up the rooms for both warbirds and jets rallies. I've been trying to talk to the manager all week and keep getting the runaround so I don't know where we are on that. May be better via Expedia or Trivago. Les and I both are going to try and reach him Monday morning and hit him from two sides. We don't have Tech football in town this next weekend so there should be tons of rooms available. I'll post as soon as I hear anything.

Forecast is still looking great with mid to high 80's and lows in the 60's and winds SSE below 11mph
John

Hi John, hope all is going well out there!!

I told Nick when I saw him at Waco, I was planning on attending your event. But it seems I am stuck at Eglin FL for work, and likely won't be traveling back until this weekend. So I'm pretty sure I won't be able to make your event. :-(

Which stinks, because I've just finished a MiG-21 , and was hoping to mix it up with Les Morrow's big F-4! I guess that match will have to wait for another time...

Hope the event goes well - sounds like you have decent interest again from your thread!
