Default Jet Teng Viper 90 - which turbine is best for it?

Hi guys,

I have ordered one of these from Andy at Jet Teng after seeing one fly with a K45. Whilst the K45 worked very well, the all up weight including fuel was around 7kg. What turbine are you guys using (the kit specifies 45 to 60 size engines). I have an old gas start Funsonic FS 70 Typhoon in stock. It is a nice small and light motor, so I was hoping for some advice with this particular Viper.

Thanks for your input.

Hi Jan,

having built said said jtm viper you saw, I would recommend looking at a lambert turbine. Service is an issue with them, but a much smaller package so lighter weight.

I have heard of someone stuffing a k60 in there, but anything bigger than a K45 is going to require a bit of surgery to make happen so that give you an ideal of the space you have to play with. I also worked hard to get the turbine in as far forward as I could and started with equipment layout very early on in the piece so there is no added weight to get the CoG correct.

having said that, I've flown jon's viper a couple of times and it will land a fair bit slower. She's not 100% sorted, but I can say the airframe handles the weight fine.

All up up weight dry of that particular viper is 5.2kg. So with with tanks full 6.1kg takeoff weight.

thanks

Dave.

I have P20 in mine and weight is 4,2 kg including 500 ml fuel
(This plane is without rudder and flaps)
If you add a lot of equipment you need the Lambert turbine for grass take of
Don´t make it more heavy than around 5 kg

I have just ordered a special 1.3L custom tank for my JTM Viper90 from Carlos at CMJETS. It was a good experience and I cannot wait for it to be delivered. Should be perfect with my KT45G.

Cheers,

Jan

Hey Jan,

i have just just ordered the last JTM viper in stock directly from jet teng!

Please post a picture up of the tank he tank when it arrives. Would be great to see.

ive found that I tent to get 5.5mins of flight time on jon's viper with 1.2lts on board. Jon tents to get about a minute less with his lead foot .

hope to catch up at a QTF event soon!

thanks

Hi Dave,

Glad to hear you have pulled the trigger on one too. Mine has been sitting on the shelf since last year and I have decided it is time to put it together. At the same time I am also putting my Mini Avanti together (with a KT45G) and whilst looking to find a better tank option for that, I came across the tanks that Carlos at CMJets make. If you look on his website, you will see he offers the Viper tank as a 1.7L +1.0L combo (fuel and smoke). However, I asked him to just make me a 1.3L fuel tank as I rarely fly longer than 5 minutes and I don't intend installing any smoke. He very kindly obliged. Let me know if you have any trouble making contact with him and I will give you his contact details that worked for me.

We have started flying at CRAMS, going again tomorrow.

Cheers,

Jan

Kolibri T50 would be a nice fit in the 90mm Viperjet, although overkill.... Weight probably close to the P20 powerd one but with 54N of thrust, or close to K60 power.

However, which setup you choose and why you are 110% up to you

Hi guys,

Is there a build thread anywhere for this model with a turbine installation? However, for now, where did you guys fit the elevator servo(s)?

Cheers,

Jan
