Thank you very much Gary!

any issue with the stab or rudder pocket coming loose from being taken on and off every trip??

i was thinking about trying to transport it with tail on but will probably just end up with more hangar/trailer rash...plus can fit more planes..

i might build a stand that supports it under the wing root on the fuse to avoid having to take the ventral fins off...

do you have wing and stab stab bags for it? If so where did you get them?

I will add some pics after Friday...

Bill

Bill,

I have had no issue with stab or rudder drive pockets coming loose. However I did drill and re-glue them all. See my post #235 above. I take the stabs off to make more space and carry additional planes. The vertical fin could stay on but I take it off because its easier for me to move it around with a smaller tail profile.

I also changed my ventral fin mounting screws out to 4-40 socket head bolts with blind nuts on inside of fuse. Makes them very easy to put on and off and no worries about a wood screw working loose.

I'm using a Skymaster 1/5 F-16 wing bag. Had one for my SM and it was too convenient. It holds both wings, both stabs, both ventrals, and the vertical fin. Only had to mod it for the front vertical fin post to fit. Got the first one from Skymaster, got this one from Dirk at Pacific RC Jets.

Good luck on the flights,
Gary

Bill,
Photos of my SM wing bag. Everything in one bag.

Here is my SM wing bag and the bubble wrap and hot glue bags for the ventrals. The ventrals slide between the wing roots in the bag and the velcro closures hold them in place. I remove my tip rails and missiles for transport also.

Had to make a hole for the forward vertical fin post to fit the BVM fin. All else fits good.

Thanks for all the info Gary!!

are you using the control throws from the paper templets also what about expo as listed in bvm manual?

I see from videos that you fly from grass.. how is the gear holding up? What about the nose steering?

Thanks again
Bill

Hi Bill,

Yep I'm using the basic setup from the templates. I am currently flying everything on full rates with about 20% expo using a CortexPro. My gain is 40% flaperons up, and 60% flaperons down. I had lots of help from the BVM guys setting it up at FIF in May. I am using just flaperons up and down at the recommended settings like the full scale jet, no middle position.

My CG is about 1/2" behind that recommended in the book. The jet is very easy to fly and land. Just don't get slow on short final or it will drop in. If you see the nose pitch up as you roll out on final be careful about pulling power off too soon. I love the slow flight at high AOA and will be experimenting with heading hold during high AOA flight next time out. Its raining here this weekend, rats.

So far, no issues with gear at all on grass or pavement. Steering is good, and brakes are good. I did the brake lube like the book said. The only issue I've had was very slow gear retraction and doors close after about 10 flights. After discussion with Rob, I applied the BVM lube to each gear and door cylinder and the problems stopped. Probably was blow by in a dry cylinder dropping the overall system pressure making it all slow.

You will really like the jet. Good luck.

Gary

Can you guys please provide me with your control throws. I bought my Falcon from another pilot and the BVM website doesn't list the manual online
