One more pic: this one is a merging of a pic Warren took of my plane and one he took of a MiG a while ago. The end result is pretty cool. Thanks Warren!

After all the headaches jt is finally flying well. Got 6 flights on it this weekend. Still having some gear retraction problems, will change out Jettronics valve for a mechanical valve. Nose gear wont go up. Works perfectly on the ground. I zoom, slow, cycle and they come up the. Turn and burn. Landings a piece of cake.

It came in just under 33 lbs with fuel in the UAT only.

Where did you install your air tanks?

I was thinking above the pipe....is that a good idea you think?

Yes, I installed all three air tanks above the pipe.
I also went with three separate air systems, one each for the gear, brakes, and doors. This worked out very well because on my third flight an air line in the door system melted under the turbine but since the gear was isolated on a different air system I was still able to get the gear down.
Make sure you put heat shielding over the air lines that run under the turbine.

I was planning on 3 tanks but Gear/door, Brakes, chute.

as for the lines under the turbine I was considering installing the lower bypass. This should protect the lines. If I can only make it fit half decent 🤔

You might have fixed it but I had the same problem with mine. I determined that the ball link on the struts was catching on the fount door. I added a block to the door like you would do on a king cat and it fixed it. The air load was pushing the door back. Dan

The only problem I'm having is trying to keep the brakes from locking up. I had to order new tires. I'm using a UP brake valve and still have major tire wear even dropping the pressure . I just lubed the brakes with graphite that a buddy recommends and will see if that helps. Dan

Ron Schwarzkopf model products. He makes Aim7 missiles for the belly of the jet, in addition to a centerline mounted gun pod and future works will be lau-10 rocket pods. Great stuff. Tell the girls Merry Christmas.

I used a BV smooth stop and had great success and never had to lube them.

Dan,
I use a UP valve on mine and have not had any problems with the brakes.

When you say they are locking up, do you mean that they are locking up while braking (during roll out, after landing), or are they not releasing completely making it harder to taxi?

I have noticed that the brakes drag quite a bit even when released, so the wheels do not roll as easily as I would like. I think that issue is just a result of the design of the disk brakes. I was able to minimize it by adjusting the tension on the axle. As I recall, I loosened the axle so the wheel had some side play with the brakes released (.010-.015" I would guess).

BTW,
This is my Phantom with the RSMP Sparrow missiles attached:

When I apply the brakes they lock up easy. I can see the smoke coming off tires. As soon as I get the new tires I will see if the grafite helps. WOW you plane looks great. I might have to do that. Dan

I resurrected this thread because we are starting flying season again. Plus, it's a cool thread! A few pages back on this tread, Pat Fernandez threw out the idea of building Zuni rocket launchers for this model, and he didn't know, but I took him up on it. Here are a couple pics if anyone is interested. This is the LAU-10 rocket launcher, with missile noses that are removable. The launchers plug into the Skymaster F-4 TER rack. There may be other pylons they may plug into - not sure fully what is available from Skymaster regarding pylons...

I made a few of these pairs of launchers, but can make more if there is interest. You can PM me or email me at [email protected].
( Sorry for the gargantuan sized photos... )

LAU-10 parts available for Skymaster F-4 or similar scaled models.
