I love my F4s FYI just passing along my experience with these kits. You will want to reinforce the gear structure also.
Thanks for the info! Great tips for sure.

Build Video Series coming but I thought I would put these pic's up here as well.
Pay attention to the gear. Skymaster Old kit and New kit didn't have the gear installed the proper direction.
Not really an issue but the tire does rub on the outside door if you keep the spokes of the wheel facing outward.
Proper direction is spokes of the wheel facing inward and it works better for the entire setup.

Stock skymaster installed setup. Tire facing wing tip and rubs against door.

Proper direction as per full scale.

We have had a few make the changes you did and I was hopeful maybe they changed. As Buck says newer cylinders and geometry also work but I think the best solution is the bellcrank as you have done! I have two of these and love them. Probably going to sell one and get bigger one!!!!

First Build Video. This one is interesting. We compare all the weights in the old kit vs the new kit.

Great work regarding the inner gear door modification. I went a step further with gear reinforcements by adding a full length maple block to the front side of the gear structure. Probably unnecessary but it gives me full confidence when landing that I’m not going to rip the frame out should I have a less than optimum landing or veer off-road.the block is glued to the top skin along the rib.

Buck…. I’m sure Jonathan will chime in.. but I believe he did place a block under the flex plates to reinforce that structure.. 😀

What’s up amigo, I think of you crazy folks at the basin every time I fly into Burbank!!! Yea he did add a block under the flex plate but I went a step further and hysoled an additional maple block on the front side of the framework to tie it all together ( but along the top skin and rib ). There is just enough room to stuff it in there through the gear door opening.

Ply blocks installed under gear mounts. Both Sides. Glued in with West Systems SIX10

New MAP Cylinder installed with new linkage setup on the wing inner door. Measurements are given in the video. This was the most time consuming thing to complete on the wing. Skymaster lock nuts installed on the cylinder so when closing the air cylinder isn't trying to over pull itself and close the door further than designed.

Stock setup trying to figure out the new setup.

New hatch on left. Old hatch on the right. Big weight differences between the 2 kits.

Weight differences between the two.

I'll try to upload all the pictures with each associated video. The video will explain in greater detail of course.

OLD kit (My kit) came with a chute kit. I sent this off to my friend and 3D Printing guy, JOE who made a copy of it. More to come on the install of these in upcoming videos.
He also spent some time improving the original chute kit which had some issues with the plunger design.

Single Turbine model tank layout. 2 saddles with 1 front tank. These tanks will be plumbed in series with front tank draining first, then one saddle, then last saddle.

Twin tank setup. 8L total. Way too much weight and fuel for the twin Xicoy 120 setup. We will be installing 2 lower tanks and 1 upper tank in middle. lower tanks fill first with both lower tanks going into upper tank.

New kit servos being run in on Jetibox. I will do this for servos and put them through 1000 - 1500 cycles.

Overview shot of the maddness! 3 tables for each aircraft!

Unilight kit going in the new model. Love the Unilight Afteburner kits! SO BRIGHT

OMG, that Skymaster weathering job is horrendous, and they charge about $500 extra bucks for it! Better to weather it yourself

I agree the price is high but weathering is so subjective. Some love a dirty bird others lightly weathered. I have one F4 clean and one covered in dirt. My wife likes the clean ones so my new F100 and F4 are clean but my older F4 is filthy 😁

Any from the comments and emails I have received from fellows that worked around or service these F4's they say that it's not dirty enough. So yes. Weathering is all about opinion. When I built the F14 last year, painted the gear and then "destroyed" the gear, many guys thought I was nuts. On the aircraft, they look scale and awesome!

It's not that it's dirty, I love a dirty bird. It's that it's horribly done, it looks fake. Their painters are great, they need someone with some weathering skills
Weathering can make a plane look real or like a phoney toy. Unfortunately, that looks like plan B

Photo Dump time

Horn mounting. Horns in the new kit are larger than the old kit and easier to install as there are lips on the front and back of the horns to stop them from going too far into the wing. Some have installed the flap horn facing the other direction but you can still get the needed flap movement if you install it the "normal" direction

Light lens install. This is covered in the next video but the pictures are in this order in my phone.

Lenses are West System epoxy with food coloring. Cut, Shaped and sanded to fit. Finish it off with some clear coat to make it smooth.

Default Wing tip light

Man you were lucky. I had to build bent rods and took several hours to find path through wing. Guess they have good days and bad. Hopefully one day they will put purpose holes in straight line through wings. Fingers crossed. Awesome job on vids
