after maiden flight with the 100n engine you may want to detune it in the ecu with high rpm limited lower than full. this will make your throttle easier to control it is hard to fly a turbine at 85% and repeat that setting on the sticks

piggy back tanks are always better if you can do it and the bottom one drains last..

I would like to buy a Cougar and put Jetmunt 70XBL (250 Gr less than the 80 jetmunt), very light turbine with low consumption.
I am afraid about having not enough power to take of from grass,
What s your opinion?

I have a K-85G2 in mine and I'm off the grass in about 150'. Now with the old JetCat P-60 in there, I'm not sure it would have gotten off the grass at all...

So the P-60 is 13 lbs of thrust (on a *good day*) and the K-85 is 18.74 lbs.

The JetsMunt 70 is 15.8 lbs - almost exactly halfway between the P-60 and the K-85. The K-85 is really more than the Cougar needs, but it is very handy off of grass. I'd bet that the JetsMunt 70 would be good off of grass in the Cougar as well.

Thank you bob for your answer. My concern is more also about noise. I decided to go with the jetmunt 70 as it should be less noisy than a brand 80 or kingtech 85....

jets make noise that and the smell is why we fly them

hard to fly silent with a turbine of any kind even my p20 way a very high pitched sound. but yes the munts are lower db over all

Default Caiman or x-treme

Does anyone have a preference on the Caiman F9F Cougar vs the X-Treme Jet Cougar. The Caiman cost about $600 more as you have to pay for their retracts. X-treme comes with retracts included in the combo price.

I looked into both but after receiving a shipping quote of $800-$900 for shipping alone from a Xtreme/Skymaster dealer I went with the TopRC because shipping was $130.

Great choice, but plan on redoing the nose gear door retract mechanism. It's the only clunky thing on this jet. I just used opposing springs.

What size servo are you all putting in the Cougar. It calls for mini, but i am being recommended Savox Standard. Can you all recommend brand and model

Standard for the rudder and main wings. But the elevator servos needed to be thin wing servos.

Ruder better a midle like a savox 1260. Be careful with the weight on the rear.

Thanks for the replies. Has anyone considered the SWIWIN SW80B turbine for power.

Go with a known reliable engine. I love my Kingtech 80G. I run it on Diesel so the fuel cost is like nothing. More fluid energy too.

I've been looking hard at the kingtech 80/85. The SWINWIN spool time from idle to full throttle is said to be 2 seconds. I like that. How is the kingtech.

I have the Swiwin 60 in another plane and love it. The Swiwin 80 is new but should be good. I would not worry about buying Swiwin.

For servos, im looking at Savox, can you all tell me from your experience, what size and torque Savox i can use for Ailerons, flaps, elevator, and gear. Earlier i learned i should use the Savox 1260 for rudder.and i know i should use thin wing for elevator, but what size and torque.

Maiden last week, the 70xbl is pefect weight/power ratio no lead on the front. Take off on grass. The plane is not very stable on lateral and I notice with wind some movements right and left during slow flight.
Need 20% power for landing and brake hard with flaps.
concerning the servos I use mks 6130 finally for elevators and standard Futaba for aileron (8kg)

I choose electron retract also for legs. Need some small adaptations.

Yesterday I finished my cougar as well. I use the KingTech K70 with originial electronic retracts from TopRC. May I ask you about the weight of your Cougar? Thx!
Peter

Thx for charing the weight! I lengthen the support as well and need only 140g for CG at 185mm. Weight is 8040g without fuel. Here some images of build:

Maiden will be in may!
Peter
