surprised your tabs are skinnier than the mount rails.. my swiwin 140b fit perfectly on the installed rails.. guess you could add a ply plate under each side of the mount rails in the fuse and then shim up to the height you need where your bolt pattern falls in place.

It is 5 1/2" inside rail to rail. I guess I didn't realize a 160 was consider a "small" turbine. I guess. I wish they'd left the mounting rails like the earlier versions. It's easier to remove wood than having to figure a way to add. Especially since this has to hold/support the turbine.

how small of a turbine do they think one would put in this jet. looks like it is now cut out for 200 or more to mount well.. here is my predator i drilled relief holes for the ring bolts to pass through they are not bolted to wood only outside bolts are

Is yours an older version? Looks like yours has the rails like I was talking about. Has the several lines that you could cut out to fit the turbine of choice. I talked to someone who put a K-210 in it and it fit. Obviously using something in the 160 range is considered too small now because the rails are a lot farther apart then I expected them to be. So, I'm going to have to modify the rails or sell my 160 and buy a bigger turbine.

If that's the case make the turbine range minimum a 200 sized turbine since nothing else will fit.

Default High Temperature servo wire sleeving

Pilot multi pin servo connector

High temperature servo wire sleeve

1100 deg F high temp sleeving
I am installing McMaster Car No-irritation ceramic high temperature sleeving for mywing servos and retracts. It is rated for 1100 deg F part number 88175K34 (1/2" ID, 10ft roll, only $16.03). Attached are some photos including my multi-servo connector from Pilot.

SWK550, do you have to remove the connectors at the end of the extensions to get it the extensions fed through?

Default Exhaust tube installed

Exhaust outlet end view

Elevator & Rudder extension routing (do I need the thermal sleeve?)

Servo extension routing

Rudder, Elevator extensions routing

Exhaust bell mouth location

Exhaust outet
This is my first jet turbine ARF assembly, so I am not sure of all assembly aspects. It took some effort but I finally got the exhaust tube installed. My Kingtech K-140G2 will come in next week. The end of the exhaust tube extends 1" past the rear mount bulkhead. It is free to expand for thermal growth. My elevator and rudder extension leads have been installed. Is this routing OK or is there a better way. Please post a picture if there is a better way.

the end of your piipe will stop at the even bottom edge of the end of the fuse. this is how my turbine ready version came from pilot...it will be inset inside rear of fuse except where even at the bottom

good catch tony i didnt see he did bypass that use. heat rises and your in the heat zone by turbine there. if worried put in a sleeve guard like your wing harness is but i assure you it wont melt the tube so your wires will be safe. tie off to bulkhead when it makes the transition at bell mouth to next tube into tail.

Great. that is what we design. it protect the wire very good. even the turbine fire, it will not hurt the servo extension wire.

I was thinking about ordering the smoke tank and plumbing it into the system as an extra fuel tank. Just curious if anyone else has done that. I'm going to be putting a K-210G2 in mine so the extra fuel would be welcomed and since I'm not a smoke guy I thought about just using at as an aux. fuel tank.

jason
why so much power in a regular jet without a 3d tail cone

i thought my 180 was total over kill.. hope you speed doesnt suck the canopy off it..............

Because a 180 and 210 actually fit the mounting rails. The 210 is lighter and I am by no means a full throttle flyer. Most if not all my flights on my jets are at under half throttle. I fly my jets like a pattern plane. I use energy to fly to and from each maneuver, not the throttle. Besides, if like the plane then I have a 210 for a bigger predator.

I suggest you go with 2.7m predator for 210 turbine. the fuel tank is 4.6L. you can add the 2L smoke tank as extra tank. see below:

2.2m predator with two fuel tank (total 6.6L) is a little heavy for this size jet. 2.7m predator is the best choice for 210 size turbine.

Tony, you guys shouldn't make the turbine rails wider than the "normal" flying recommended turbine range. I don't like the idea of 2 lightweight pieces of wood holding the weight of my turbine because it's to narrow for the factory rails. The rails should fit a 160 and left to the builder to remove some wood if they need to mount a bigger turbine. The only reason I considered going bigger is that a 180-200 size turbine actually fits on the factory rails without having to modify anything. Is a K-180G2 to big then for normal flying? I don't really want to buy a 2.7M predator as of now considering I have a 2.2M on my work bench. I want to first fly the 2.2M and see how I like it and then I will probably go bigger. I even have been looking at the 3.0M for a future plane. I first want to see how everything works out on this one. Also, how is using the smoke tank for fuel too heavy for the plane if you can use the same tank for smoke fluid?

Default Battery installation for balance

Assembled

Added EC3 connectors for the retract battery
For balance using the Pilot supplied balance rig, I ended up locating the 4000mah LiFe Turbine battery, two 2000mah LiFe Rx batteries and the one 1000 LiPo retract battery in the nose. I had not filled the UAT so I put a 3300mah LiFe battery on top. It balances slightly tail heavy. If I put 3oz of lead next to the Rx, it is perfectly neutral. I do a final balance check with the UAT full and a 1/2" of fuel in the main tank. I can move any battery for balance correction. Quality of the paint and finish was outstanding. No flaws what so ever. I am pleased. Now just need good weather for the maiden. Final weight 28# -10oz.

I have a question. I just noticed running my extensions from the rudder and elevators that there looks to be some material missing on a spot in the rear half of my fuse. Not sure if this is normal but I can't imagine it is. Plus is anyone else's this rough inside?

The white area looks like the factory ran out of material and just left a gap. Everything else is the greenish color except that white strip. The opposite side doesn't have the white strip

Im confused. If that is too much fuel then it should be too much weight if fuel and smoke. Why sell the combo if too heavy?

l too had some fiberglass fuzz. No big deal, a light sanding with 100 grit sandpaper removed excess material.
