Default BVM Vio Fan & Castle Creations ESC

Hi guys
Some weeks ago I was going to fly my EDF BVM F-80 that I hadn't flown in over a year. I freshly charge the batteries that had been kept at storage charge, connected everything and when I advanced the throttle trim to get get idle speed, the motor started and a couple of seconds later some smoke, motor stopped, disconnected batteries and the ESC was burned.
Disassembled everything and the only damage was the ESC, the motor was with no damage at all. Since I live in Chile I contacted BVM to see if the would sell me a new ESC. They declined saying that hey preferred that I sent the whole Viofan to them to have it checked. I ran the Viofan with another lower amp ESC and it ran ok, so I decided to buy from Castle Creation a new 160 Amp Lite ESC with the Castle Link to program the correct parameters
The new ESC has kind of a small case that covers part of it that the original that came with the Viofan doesn't have (see picture attached). I guess it works as some kind of heat sink
After this long story my question is should I remove this case or not?. The new ESC fit ok in the Viofan tail cone.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Regards
Eduardo

I would send BVM the whole thing just for peace of mind. Like I would a turbine, I trust they know more about their product than I do.

It looks the same but without the rectangular box with the logo in it. The original is several years old so maybe it didn´t come with that and now the new versión comes with it.

Go to RCGroups to Large EDF forum and ask for ESC setting. It should be standard Neu motor with Castle ESC.

As long as it fits in the tailcone leave it on.
