You won't believe how easy to fly she is !
Enjoy the maiden !. Watch your fuel .. 6 min at the most on your first flight, and check how much is left.
With the KT-100 I have my timer set at 7 min, starting at gear up ... using an overflow tank connected as long as feasible.

Good luck again.

Jack

I will find out next weekend when I maiden it. If i remember, it does have some washout. I built the wings a long time ago.

I just crashed my Magister like inspired own design jet on maiden last week ,flew it too slow and it went into a spin.(or it could be lost signal) But it is soon repaired and ready for a new maiden it has clark y airfoils , it flew fast and straight the first minute so it flies. Good luck !

IT FLEW! And Beautifully at that. Its a gentle giant. Thanks to Philip Avonds for such a wonderful kit and continued support, Manny & and Danny at Aeropanda for Jet Central, Jeti and Cortex Pro support. Electrodynamics A123 for power and JR 8411s throughout.

That's great news Tom.
Congratulations !!
Can't tell on the video, but looks like you didn't use the speed brakes on landing.
She lands a lot slower and precise with the speed brakes out.
I have them always coming out with full flaps. Better sink rate.
Also, as per Philip advise, ailerons should always go up a little (about 5 mm) with elevator up. Probably you already did that.
Keep enjoying that jewell !!
Merry christmas.

Jack

Thanks Jack. No I didnt use speedbrakes as I had 2000' of runway. Wanted to keep it simple. Will try then next flight. Also thanks for the crow tip, I didnt have any. The airplane was rock solid, the cg perfect. I had no aileron trim required but used about 12 clicks of elevator up for level flight. Will work that out also. One minor problem the NWS servo mount broke on the second flight. I am going to make one of G10 or CF. That should solve that problem. Thanks again for your advice and Merry Christmas to you also.

Tom,
The NWS servo mount needs to be made with 1/8" CF. Dimension and shape are very critical for the cylinder to lock in the up position. If the cylinder touches the mount, it won't lock.

Mine flies with the elevator 2mm down aprox .

The CG is tangent to the rear of the wing tube. Very easy to measure lifting the airplane by a small rope sandwiched between the wings and the fuse. it goes around the fuse, resting against the back of the tube.

Happy flying !

Jack

Tom,
On the subject of the Speed Brakes: they are not meant to slow the airplane down!. They reduce lift without altering the speed in any noticeable amount (I'm talking about the Fouga; and probably same applies to most gliders)
They help to avoid excessive floating and ballooning on final.
The loss of lift is compensated with angle of attack and some power; thus, making the desired sink rate manageable. (and a slower approach due to the angle of attack )

As I meant to say previously, I do not have the speed brakes on a separate switch. They are always activated by the full flap switch position.

In other words, do not land without the speed brakes deployed

Jack

Does anyone have one of these Avond Fuga's that wants to sell by any chance? I always wanted to build one but never had the time.

Thanks Tom. I would have jumped on them if i had the time for a long build. unfortunately most of my building time is 1-2 hours here and there at nights and this kit needs solid time to be spent on it. I started a Tomahawk F86 two years ago and is still going!

Aileron - 18mm
ruddervators - elev 21mm/rudd-16mm
flaps- 15 / 40 ldg
normal flaps up flight tbe elevator is 5mm BELOW the trailing edge of fixed part of ruddervator.(if you want to land have full speedbrakes mixed with full flaps)
with flaps 40 the elevator is flush with the fixed ruddervator part
cg- 160 forward of the fuse joint line

rc scale builder has a thread (Fouga Magister Philip Avonds Scale jets) on this build which is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to finish your build.

Hope this helps

Tp
