What are the limitations of the 5 and 7 channel Rx? I bought a PBR-7S (and several other Rx) with my CORE but seeing it is a single Rx I don't know if it is limited in what type of aircraft it is safe to use with. I would like to put it in a 2M pattern plane... We all flew for many years with a single Rx back in the 72mHz days. Then with Spectrum it was advisable to use additional satellites with bigger aircraft, one for a park flyer, two for most stuff, 3 or 4 for IMAC planes and jets. But this is different technology.

I was thinking the same thing the other day, I have a EDF 80mm jet that I’m using as a test bed. I put the 7s in with the single antenna, I placed the antenna in the front with what I think the least amount of possible RF obstruction.
Have not flown it yet, still 2 feet of snow on the ground, but it’s ready to go with telemetry showing the number of frame losses.
I think it will be just fine.

I did extensive testing in an EDF Avanti with the 7s. I have the aerial back of the cockpit running up the angled line. The last bit of the aerial is outside the fuselage. I have flown to the limit of my vision, 20’ from the ground in every direction and it’s solid.
The weakest signal is looking down the point of the wire, mounting vertical, slightly angled is the best solution, do that and I would use one in the pattern plane fine.

I would say the nose is not necessarily the best place, if it was a two Rx install I would put one in the nose, but screening is more of an issue with a single aerial. Just the last inch is receiving the data, hence getting it high and vertical is best for the demanding area of a flight pattern when the model is low and far out.

Kind of crazy the way stuff is selling here in the states. I posted last night here and before going to bed someone was selling a pair of N.I.B. PBR-8E for a song. I snapped them up. To me they are great for simple but valuable or large aircraft, two receivers but not much functionality besides a basic receiver. Which I don't really care about for sport flying. That's so personal though, many sport flyers love telemetry! But I rarely look down at my Tx so an 8 ch will get the Pattern plane and the 7 ch a foamy.
Thanks for the discussion on aerial placement. I'm a bit surprised you are putting the aerial outside of the fuselage though. Does foam, or balsa and Monokote, really interfere with reception? I thought Carbon Fiber was the only real problem.

Only reason outside to to get it as clear/high as possible. Not because of screening. Also flexing in the wind helps with no fixed line on the Rx aerial pickup!

I have this setup.
I use serial input to cortex.
Then i programmed the A port on the receiver to start as channel 7,(1-6 in cortex, including gain)
That gives you the 9 open ports in the receiver, 9 awailible channels.(7-15)
Be aware, that if you are not using a powerbox of some sort, you need to supply battery power to both receiver and gyro, as the bus port on the receiver has a wery limitet current draw awailible...

The i gyro sat. plugs into the fast track port and it is that port which can be configured for channel 10.,
I needed more channels than 9 so simply paralleled an 8 ch receiver to the 9 and used the Fast Track port on the 9 for the gyro and fed a couple of low amperage valves from the 8 channel unit.
I then connected the sensors, pressure guage, Xico ecu and the V speak unit into the p2 bus via a hub.
The i gyro sat. plugs into the fast track port and it is that port which can be configured for channel 10.,
I needed more channels than 9 so simply paralleled an 8 ch receiver to the 9 and used the Fast Track port on the 9 for the gyro and fed a couple of low amperage valves from the 8 channel unit.
I then connected the sensors, pressure guage, Xico ecu and the V speak unit into the p2 bus via a hub.

I'm looking for some advice. I currently own a Futaba 18mz, and it is basically 10 years old, time to move it on, nothing wrong with it. And thinking of a Core
All my large models are set up with Sbus (serial)through a Emcotec DPSI bus hub. I don't use the Powerbox expanders. The DPSI bus hub handles the power requirements just fine. Lighter etc
I do understand if I go to the Core it will involve new RX's.
My question is, can I purchase Powerbox Rx's, output a serial output that my servos (Futaba Sbus2 types)in existing models will recognise. I don't want to install a power expander, and then have to PWM to the servos. I don't want to run all new cabling. I can hopefully just change RX's

I "think" the answer is yes, and here's why, because this is in the specs for the 26D and 9D receivers
Do you have a link to the bus you're using so I can maybe confirm?
