And just over 2 years and I'm doing another King Cat refurbishment, also for a local friend, the goal is to have it flying by the end of the month.

So far I'm almost done with the fuel system and smoke system then, I will service the retracts and struts but I'm waiting on a few parts from BVM, will order new batts. I will be replacing the old LION batt pack and the regulators with two LIFE packs and a LIPO for the engine, just like the previous KC.

It sure needs lots of TLC.

And this KC is 99% and almost ready for a field test and a maiden flight.

The only problem left to fix ( it had a bizzilon ) is the nose retract, I've already spend too many hours trying to make it work, it looks like the air cylinder's O rings are allowing air to pass through them, sometimes it work, sometimes ot doesn't.

Has anyone send the retracts back to BVM to have them rebuild?

Any ideas will greatly appreciated.

( loosing my mind over this 🤯 )

Just talked to a friend that had one or two before, he suggested that ( since the nose was repaired before ) there maybe a twist on the retract when mounted since it works perfectly when it's out.

I will explore that.

Call Rob at BVM, he can give you the answer that you need for this problem. Friend had same thing and Rob told him how to fix it.

The Cat is all done and ready to fly again, I send the nose retract to BVM, Rob worked on it, the air cylinder was leaking air and it was replaced. The retract arrived on Friday and I couldn’t wait to see it in action, I wasn’t disappointed, it is working flawlessly and the system is holding air overnight.

Thank you to the BVM team that helped me with this retract, Rob, Patty and Heather, they did a superb job.

The KC’s maiden went well, as usual a few minor things to adjust, but the TO, flight and landing went well, it flies a bit different than my Boomer xl.

That was the first time that I flew a BVM jet and a Kingcat.

On another note, I also maiden a PST Reaction 54, much heavier than my all wood one but they both have the same flying characteristics, the TO, flight and landing were as expected, I had to go around 3 times because it kept on floating over the runway not wanting to land, I asked the guys setting it up to add crow but they didn’t, after the flight they added more flaps down and will be adding a 1/4” of crow.

All in all and excellent day at the field flying with another 20 or so jet guys, the weather was excellent, clear and light winds.

I have an AMT Olympus HP set to 60lbs thrust on my kingcat.
My flaps come down close to 80 degrees and ailerons up 1" for crow as the residual thrust is high, it works great, only issue is if I come in too nose high and if the main gear compresses hard I can hit the flaps on landing.

I recently started on a cleanup of an older KingCat. I will be going through all systems and airframe to make sure everything is good and sound. It has had some pretty bad nose damage at some point. It was fixed, but it certainly wasn't good looking fix. I will do what I can to make it look a bit nicer before I start putting the equipment back in.
I am going old school and using a P-120SX paired with Jeti components and a Cortex. Should be a fun project.
Looking forward to getting it going.

Very nice!

I assume you fly at WDA. The nose damages usually comes from been too heavy on the nose, definitely CG it at the booms holes to start with then, you can move the CG about 1/4 back from the holes if desired.

Have fun.
