Default FeiBao F4 gear mount questions

I bought a used FeiBao F4 and the gear mounts look like crap and some poor repairs. Can anyone tell me that has one or knows. Was the G10 factory installed. And why did someone raise the rear rail with 1/4 ply. Is the rear supposed to be lower. At current the gear don't seem to close correctly and the rear of the tire sticks up hitting the inner gear door. Any help or pictures would be greatly appreciated. I can't even find a old build thread. Any ideas?Attached Thumbnails

If its the airframe in the link below, it will give you the answer as to whether the G10 was fitted in the factory or not.

Sailfish,

Mine looks just like that. I think the reason for that one rail being higher is that when you set the correct wheel alignment the wheel hits the inside of the wheel well. But it also makes the wheel then hit the gear door. Not a great design. I haven't got mine airborne yet. Still tinkering on the gear.

Are you kidding. Mine look like crap. So your rear rail is alot lower than the front? And does the rear rail have that little scrap of wood between the rail and gear? Could you please send some pictures of yours. I'd appreciate it. Thanks
Ps we can do this together, lol

I can't post a pic until I've got ten posts. Freaking a-holes. I've been on this forum since 2003 with thousands of posts but somehow they won't let me log in anymore. Had to start all over with a new account. My old account was Secret Agent. Since I just retired I made the new one with a Ret. in front, HA!

My biggest problem right now is one gear won't hold air at all.

Also guys be careful on maidens. I have test flown 2 and both had tendencies to roll hard as if the wing or tail plane was out of alignment and needed a lot of aileron trim to fly straight and level. So please have long runway and keep on ground until rolling very fast to insure enough aileron effectiveness.

You can call me to discuss if you want

Put BVM gear oil in all the cylinders. About 1cc in each end fitting. Orings may be dry. As soon as you hit 10 post. Send some pictures, lol whoever had mine put big springs to help pull the gear up. I don't get it. I also feel like mine has the wrong gear in her. May be Skymasters F4 gear.

I tried the BVM oil thing to no avail. I'm also in the process of replacing the gear door cylinders because those leak too.

Saillfish, your gear look just like mine. Now you have me curious as to the extra spring as well. Strange.

Thanks for the heads up Kevin, I'll definitely keep an eye out for that on maiden.

Any other quirks you can think of with this airframe?

Saillfish, I've got the same color scheme as you do.

What motor are you running in it? I've got a P-160SX in mine.

No other issues. It landed well once trimmed. Just very scary on the hard turn on rotation!!! Gear were issue to work out leaks. I now own 2 Skymaster F4's that I enjoy

Saillfish, I'm not being rude, I've been in RCU purgatory until now.

Yes, my gear have (in my case thin strips of G10) risers on the gear rails. I'm guessing the airframes came from the factory with the gear rails incorrectly positioned.

Secret, oh I know you weren't being rude. You had told me why you couldn't post pics. Thanks for the picture. It helps me a ton. It shows your rear rail is lower. But most importantly they angle together the same to tilt the whole assy in the wing. Mine has a crappy repair job by a possibility 4 yr old. I don't understand how at the level of the hobby some/most can't make the simplest repairs correctly.

Ha!! I hear ya, I've seen some scary built jets too.

I just ordered a complete set of gear for mine from FB. Retracts, struts, wheels and brakes for $450 shipped. Figured I could use spare parts, and maybe get a set that doesn't leak?

I'm gonna run smoke in mine. Ran the smoke tube out the back so no drips inside the pipe. Put a smoke tank in front of the fuel tank.
