Here is a YouTube link of my F16XL flying at Kings Canyon Jet Rally.

I did mostly low speed maneuvers along with other fast moving jets in the patterns. However it handled quite well in shifting winds.

I think retracts in this and T7 XXL are the same JP hobby ones. Does anyone have max current values for them as I intend to swap controller to Xicoy 15?

Ceeray,
My results are in Post # 201 above. Let us know what values you settle on.

Thanks!
i have also 7.4V regulated and nose gear wont retract properly with JP controller if airpspeed builds up. Mains go.

Also braking really uneven. I use 3S from engine for brakes and I sure hope the lgc15 would solve these issues.
Also I am thinking putting some padding behind brake pads to keep them in close contact with magnet, so they will act faster without locking up.

Won't the Xicoy LGC15 controller send 3s to the retracts also?
Thanks,
Tone

Good point! I will have to get the power from 7.4V regulated for all. Easy tho as I just plug 3 ports from AR smoothflite and get 3x5A constant..

Gear can handle 3s lifepo4 9.9 but not 3s lipo. Thats from Jean Marc / JMB

That's the problem I had with the LGC-15. It has no ability to deliver different volts to gear and brakes. I needed 3S on the brakes to stop the jet but the JP retract motors were limited to 2S. This info came from JP and is also printed on the JP gear controller. I removed the LGC-15 and used the JP gear controller on 2S for the gear only. I then installed an AG-63 steering and brake controller and used 3S for the brakes only. It worked great and steering and braking were perfect...until the brake output failed after about 6 months. I installed the JP brake controller on 3S and it lasted 1 flight and failed. It internally shorted out and was cooking when I finally got to the jet and smelled it burning. I plan to install another AG-63 when I get back to it but I'm so frustrated with the JP gear and brake system it's in the penalty box for a while.

i would be kinda interested in hearing from anybody that has gotten 50-70 flight cycles out of the jp gear with any controller running on a 3 cel life battery.

Maybe using a voltage resistor between gear and controller to drop V like 3.5V from 12.6 max to 9...?

Did they ever replace the landing gear controller? the one that came with the XL was terrible. If I remember I used the Xicoy lgc13c and I had no issues after.

This may be a good idea. So far nothing else I've tried has worked very well or lasted.
Thanks,

I don't know if they replaced anything but I am using the JP gear controller for the gear only. Doors are controlled by Jeti transmitter sequencer. So far it's working since I took out the LGC-15. My problems have been with keeping brakes working well enough to stop the jet or even working at all!

My F-16XL after the last flight of the day at Flying Tigers Event Of The Year 2022 in South Carolina. Its' flying as good as I can fly it and the new AG-63 steering gyro and brake controller on 2S seems to be working well so far. I did not realize till I posted the photo that I was photo bombed by the landing PAU Edge in the back ground!

This has to be one of the most fun jets I have flown. It flies fast, slow, will turn up it's own rear end, and is easy to land...plus it just looks good flying or sitting. I really like it. I looks like the V2 by Air Knight in the above post has fixed lots of the V1 issues and should be a great jet.

Yodes65: Nice video of your XL. I have had one for well over a year and have not flown it. Long story, but just got discussed with the build and now the main gear does not seem to center correctly in the Fuselage, so that means I need to take the entire thing apart, again. But your video got me excited and now I started looking at it again. I have probably asked this question and it has most likely been answer. But how do you have your control set up? Separate elevators and ailerons, or work together like elevons, Hey thanks for the info.

Thrse guys be the ones to get ya over the hump. Post a vid of the gear issue, they'll get you sorted.
And Yeah, I know rhe pain. My hanger 9 P51 is languishing unfinished because if gear issues. Apparently eflite lg don't like xicoy lg gear controllers.

It is the placement of the gear on the former. the former or bulkhead is not square to the fuse. it is at an angle. I just need to take the jet apart and square the gear up some how.
thanks for the link

I set mine up as full span elevons based on the full scale flight control system. It works great and I speculate with less parasite drag but just guessing. I see lots of elevator deflection in some photos and videos of the model XL when making tight turns that looks like lots of deflection parasite drag. Induced drag is probably the same on both. Anyway, just my two cents worth. See my Posts #207 to #212 above.

Just finished a fun weekend with the XL. Sorry no more pictures or video. I moved the CG back a little by shifting one of the Rx batteries behind the cockpit. I then concentrated on flying a slower final turn and final approach at higher AOA than before which made slower more scale like landings. It looked really cool. It is really fun to fly and easy to land.
