Aeroshell 500 Turbine Oil
#3

Really ?
Whilst some manufacturers advise against ASTO 500 Jetcat because of deposits formed in their lubrication and combustion techniques, AMT, JetCat and PST DO recommend it for their engines.
Used it in those engines with mainly Jet A1, for years, zero problems.

Been flying turbines and using aeroshell 500 and exxon 2380 for 22 years now. Never any issues in any of the turbines I've owned.
I truly believe that a lot of these comments and opinions are made simply because a product is no longer the current popular product when there is really nothing wrong with the product. A couple of my AMT's are over 20 years old with over 100 hours and never been sent in for service. Aeroshell 500 must be doing something right.

Just because you don’t have problems does not mean it’s good. Take that engine apart at service time and it will be a huge mess inside that takes forever to clean.
2380 is a good oil though. I guess playing in it working on full scale all those years made me very sensitive to it. If I even get close to it my eyes start itching now.
So many options for oil that’s not harmful to your health now and much better for your turbine.

Not my deal at all, my builder has been using it for over twenty years and swears by it. I'm a full scale mechanic type and I hate the exposure of, bascially, any lubricant used on a full scale turbine, is just loaded with carcinogens.
JetCat was the first to come out with an oil having no carcinogens, anti-static additive with 1qt bottles making mixing easy, and that's why I went that way. As mentioned, there are now other oils without the carcinogens available.

I’m completely with Gunradd. I know JetCat (USA longer than Europe) did recommend it, but back in the days of stuck rotors/sticking turbines it was me who pointed at Aeroshell 500.
Mixing oil with Kero as we do means some of the oils are better than others at absorbing into the Kero and when burnt the way it deposits into the combustion varies.
It’s clear the atmospheric conditions people operate in will influence your luck.
If it works for you then great, I stopped recommending my customers use it 15 years ago. We use BP or Mobil oils exclusively until recently when many are now using JetCat oil or Power Jet oil because of supply issues.

The only negative thing I see is that somebody is letting people know he will have oil for sale at a decent price at an event and people have to give their opinions on that oil. There are a dozen or more oil discussions on rcu as it is. No need to be negative on this one.
If you don't like 500 don't buy it, simple as that.
