Specs from the Boomerang site.

Boomerang Super Elan – Twin Boom, Turbine Terror.

Sharing design DNA with the Boomerang Elan V2, the Super Elan is the larger counterpart to the Elan V2, spanning an impressive 116 inches tip to tip, and ready to light up the skies with 180 to 230 class turbine power. Powerful, fast, and well behaved in all regimes of flight, the super Elan is the perfect choice for pilots in search of stability and speed, punctuated with aerobatic flair in this gorgeous twin boom design.

Our first fully composite Boomerang Jet, the super Elan is both gorgeous and durable, offered in multiple high visibility liveries that are easy to track in the blue skies above.

Adding excellent value to this potent mix of speed and fun, Boomerang RC includes a complete set of electronic retracts for true aerodynamic perfection. Further this with electronic braking capability, landings are even easier, allowing for shorter distances on touchdown with active electronic braking.

Thanks to its generous wing area and large "Barndoor" flaps, low-speed control is unparalleled, making low-speed approaches a seamless affair. Pair the full span ailerons for rapid levels of aerobatic maneuverability, the Elan is both agile & nimble, offering excellent control in all regimes of flight.

Offering a generous access hatch for both the engine and equipment section for ease of accessibility, the super Elan comes equipped with a composite fuel tank, equating to extended flight time for this amazing machine. Fully fueled, the Elan is a short field performer, with grass field takeoffs at the ready.

Despite its size, the super Elan breaks down easily, allowing ease of transport in small vehicles and compact storage at home. Quick to assemble, the super Elan can be at the ready in short order, proving epic levels of flying once at the field!

With a fighter jet like appearance, the Elan lives up to its looks with performance to spare. Whether opting for an 180 sized turbine or a monster 230, the super Elan is destined to deliver.

Photos are a bit erratic.

Horn gluing. Very nice to see hardwood hard points on all the horn mounts.

TABBIES!

TABBIE PREP

Open up the flap pin holes on both sides to get pin sitting tighter.

Doors already have layout complete for hinges. Very Nice!

Rudder Servo Mount. If no rubbers are used, you may have to install a washer.

Boom's have some serious connections to the main fuse. 2 x massive carbon tubes. Tabbie fastening and also top and bottom fastening.

Wing Tabbies.

Main gear and door install. Very easy and nice layout!

Flap glued in plane and held tight with tape.

Flap movement. Could also reverse the horns but with stock/standard setup you can get massive movement no problem.

Stock Ball joints and rods are 4mm. Very nice and strong!

Main side boom mount through tabbie.

main gear mounted with stock hardware. Nice big allan head wood screws x 6

Fron gear install. Simple and easy to line up.

Generally I use Powerbox wire for everything. Trying out a new aviation wire. Slightly heavier, way more heat resistant. Trying it out for the first time.

Booms installed.

Both bays (front and rear) painted with primer and speckled finish.

Are the tip tanks optional? I noticed that the early pics of this model didn’t have them.

Alan Cardash ignored feedback years ago when several of us mentioned that he’d shaped them backwards on his latest model. He got pissy about it even. The subsequent owners have continued to make them backwards. Hopefully others are more forgiving, but personally I can’t un-see them and they are a no-go for me.

For sure! The kit comes with a set of Tip Tanks and a set of Normal wing tips. Easy to swap, 1 bolt.

Wing Tips held on with one tabbie and single bolt. Both wing tips the same setup.

Skycandy leading edge light install!

Wing plug in. 9 Pin Ashlock connector for everything.

Added the outside coller to the skids. Missed this when first installing.

I enjoy watching your video series. I ended up ordering the boomerang with the 10% discount. I currently fly a a Version 1 of the Elan boomerang. That model is such an excellent flyer that xl should be even better.

Legs were a little soft for my liking. Mains. Took strut apart and added a piece of Tygon inside the spring. This 15mm extra sitting past the spring seemed to be the perfect amount. Easy solution. There is a 2 stage spring installed but full fuel and smoke it not stiff enough.

Overall thoughts from the project.
- Surprising how small the box is for such a large aircraft. It's very well thought out. The way the booms come off of the fuse, leaving the front part of the boom permanent on the fuse is perfect.
All the parts and pieces end up very well sized and fitting in basically any vehicle is possible.
- Easy to assemble. Pull fuse out, drop gear and as it's sitting on the ground on it's legs everything can be assembled. All the fixing and fasteners are from the top, only one small fastener on each boom is underside.
- All the supplied hardware was used on the servos. The 4mm rods and metal balls are great. Stiff and strong. The supplied balls had a small amount of play in them. I find this if very common on plastic ones as well. I take care of this by
applying a drop of oil on the ball and then a drop of thin CA. Works great. Didn't use the supplied hardware for the doors as my install didn't allow this. If the front hinges on the door are lined up properly at install, stock hardware could be used. If a mini servo was used on the mains then the stock hardware could be used.
- Full composite is very nice. Boomerang has always been known for using covered aircraft or a combo (composite fuse and Wood/covered Wings). The Super Elan is Full Composite. 2 sets of wing tips included and easy to swap.
- Fuel tank is exactly 7L. I marked mine at 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5. I suspect I will only be filling it to the 5.5 or 6 mark and still getting long flights.
- Lots of room in the front end of the aircraft. Easy to hide wiring and mess under the installed trays.
- I am using a 3Cell 3300 LIPO for turbine, 3 Cell 5000 LIPO for Smokepump and lights, 2 x 5000 Mah LIPO's for gear and Central box/RX power. With this battery load I added 450 ish Grams of Lead in the nose.
This weight is removable so some of it may end up coming out. CG is currently at the back edge of the Main Wing Tube.

The Elan has been around for a long time. The Super Elan is BIG, Will be an easy flier and It's the Aircraft that grows with you! If you a rookie pilot they are easy to fly, if your an experienced pilot they are tons of fun to throw around.

If you have any questions the video series may cover it but ask away on here or shoot me an email. [email protected]
