Default Wheel brake setup Skymasterjets F4 1/6

Hello Everyone,

Re:- Skymasterjets F4 Phantom 1/6

Can I get some feedback on the correct orientation & order that these disc's for the wheel brakes need to go back together.
The wheel came off after the retainer screw broke. (Happened during low speed testing of the braking system, so no damage to plane.)
I have taken the other wheel off to look but not sure they are on in the correct order.
Thanks
Bruce

Hello Bruce,

Going from the wheel out. On the wheel there is already the silver star that interconnects with the hub bolts. Next is the brass/gold ring, next is the ring with black pads on both sides, next is the brass/gold ring, then the silver star ring, and finally the OíRing air puck hub.

Hello Dan,

Thanks for the feedback.
I should have taken a photo of the back of the disc with the black fibre pad.
The Pad is only on one side.

The way the brake is assembled on the other side is.
Going from the wheel out.
1. On the wheel there is already the silver star that interconnects with the hub bolts.
2. Next is the brass/gold ring,
3. Next is the other silver star ring,
4. Next is the other brass/gold ring
5. Then is the ring with black pad on one side, with the pad facing the Hub with the O'Ring.
6. and finally the Hub with the OíRing. (air puck hub)

This means all the braking is done by the 2 x brass/gold rings.
The black fibre pad is sitting against the o'ring.

I thought the black fibre pad might have done some of the braking effect...

Thanks
Bruce

Bruce, Iím sorry, but Iím totally wrong. Iíve flown the 1/6th, helped a buddy with his, but we didnít take the brakes apart. I own a SM 1/7.75, and work on it. I thought that they were all the same, but they are not. I have a 1/7.75 NIB Wheel, tire and brake. It has a one sided pad ring, and a double sided padded ring. The one sided pad ring, the dark grey goes towards the Oíring brake puck. The pad goes towards the silver stars. The silver stars spin with the wheels and the gold rings and pad ring doesnít spin.
I would do it the way you wrote and the way the other side is assembled. It makes sense. Iím sorry that I added to your confusion. I apologize.
If youíve never flown SM Brakes, they are excellent.
Iíve enclosed pictures of a new 1/7.75.

Dark grey goes against Oíring.

I donít have the gold rings.

Hello Dan,
Thanks for taking the time to take the photos,
Appreciate it,

I have a 1/6 SM F16 and it has the same brake setup as your F4.
As you say they work well.
The brass/gold colored rings confused me a bit.
I will reassemble them to match the other side.

Hopefully test flight in the coming weeks.... :-)

Thanks again,
Bruce

Hello,
Just to follow up after getting a reply from John @ Skymasterjets to confirm.

The correct sequence of assembly is:-
Going from the wheel out.
1. On the wheel there is already the silver star that interconnects with the hub bolts.
2. Next is the brass/gold ring,
3. Next is the other silver star ring,
4. Next is the other brass/gold ring
5. Then is the ring with black pad on one side, with the pad facing the brass/gold ring.
6. and finally the Hub with the OíRing. (air puck hub)

Bruce
