Reaction 54 Jet Kit

My Feedback: (14)

Is there any R54 thread wisdom out there on what used R54 airframes are bringing in the marketplace?
I have one done up in a Navy trainer/Panther-like scheme, I posted here on the thread earlier, that I might consider selling since I recently got another kit from Bruce. My Navy R54 is pretty close to stock, and I'd like to do the new one with the inlet/canopy features so many have posted here.
I might be willing to part with my first one if the prices are reasonable, otherwise I'd probably just keep it as an everyday flyer. It has a Wren 54SS for power.

Well I picked up my Reaction wing from Bruce and all I can say is "What a Craftsman" Absolutly beautiful!!! Built in record time and at a fair price. So if you can't find the time to do a full or partial build, give Bruce a call....
Started the fuselage and ordered up all the other goodies to finish out the build. I am still trying to decide if I stay with monokote or try my hand at fiberglassing....

Well, after 2 years I will finally be gettin my Reaction in the air. I posted back in 2008 saying I had bought a bare airframe off a friend, and was looking to get it going... time flies (and other projects took precedence).
I have a brand new Behotec J55HP2 kero start for my R54. I just finished installing the Behotec retracts, wheels, brakes and struts (all top notch machine work, that Behotec stuff is amazing!). I actually just received a set of drawings today from Bruce, although I dont have any repairs to do (the airframe is good to go) just to see where everything goes its nice, and I liek to have drawings for planes in case I need to repair anything.
I am using Hitec 5645 on the flaps, and some 5945's on the elevator/rudder/ailerons.
Hope to have it RTF by the time the snow melts (that gives me nearly two months to get it done) and I hope to fly it a lot this season.

Finally got some flight photos... been flying my R54 with Behotec J55HP (an Excellent combo!) for a month now, 3 outings so far. Excellent flying characteristics and this is finally the "everday" sport turbine model I have been looking for for the past 8 years

Thanks Bruce... my friend took the shots yesterday while I was flying. WHen we have the Wingham Jets event in June, there will be a few more R54s and I will take some photos for you.
I forgot to mention one thing... my Behotec turbine is set up for kero start. The kerosene ignitor has to be upright for a clean, flame free start. I took the aluminum mount off, and cut some of the center part away, and then drilled a hole into the fuse to allow the ignitor body to go up into the hole. There is about 1/8" clearance around the ingitor body (which gets quite hot during start up). The mount is still very secure with the 4 bolts holding it on and the heat isnt an issue - nothing has caught fire in about a dozen runs
Just a heads up in case someone else might wonder how it was done.
And I put big contrasting bands of colour on most of my RC planes... it really does help in visability especially when you are up high and its sunny out.

So Bruce, Should I talk Chris into bringing your old ship back for the day?
I'm going into withdrawls here. No R54 flying due to wind.. Usually I'm ok with wind but not 30kts with my pretty bird.. LOL

Actually, yeah
I'm glad it's still in Oregon so I can see it once in a while. Still, it's just not right for me to be R54less, so I just gotta buckle down and get one built, maybe this Summer...

Oh yea - and go grab Shaker by the ear, scold him for spending too much time on FaceBook and the computer, and drag him to the field with you so Bruce can get close to his old Reaction.
Have fun guys,

Well I have finally got to put the Reaction back together - all of the internals are now complete after the rebuild. The original monocoat was removed from the fuselage to repair the damage. The fuselage was glassed in 3/4oz cloth & finished with automotive paint & 2 pac clear over the top after the pin striping was applied. I had to remove the retracts from the wing to clean them up & get them operating correctly. All systems except for the fuel have been checked & operational. I have removed the wheels & brakes & some minor repairs have to done inside the brakes.
Almost ready to fly now - unfortunately my job takes me away from home & I am leaving for Perth tomorrow so there will be no test fly in the immediate future. Hopefully I will get it certified & test flown before our Jet event on the 1st-4th July. Here is the photos of the first time the wing has been on the complete plane after the rebuild.
