Had a great time at the field today, took it very easy today, 2 flights and some more adjustments, refining the set up, this time I returned the flaps to were they were, from 60 to about 80, the added drag proved to be beneficial for a slow landing, the two landings I did today were slow and on the mains, slow enough to NOT need any breaking to stop the R-54 after landing.

The last pic is showing the fuel remaining after a 7 min flight with moderate throttle use and 2 go arounds, approximately 20 oz, the main tank is a 60 oz tank, carrying 90 oz total, fuel burned on this flight was 70 oz in 7 min with the throttle at about 60% most of the flight and some high speeds flybys to a vertical climb.

Personally I favor JoeFlyer's concept (Post 4098) of widening the fuselage rear and installing the rudder and elevator servos to the back. I will follow his concept in my own 85% scale reduction of a Reaction 54. This reduced scale Reaction 54 will employ a single 60 oz Dubro tank to feed a Wren 44K turbine. You may be too far along to widen the fuselage rear but be sure to vent the main 60 oz tank not the 16 oz aux tank.

Art, I'm happy to report that fuel doesn't flow to the ground when all 3 tanks are full, now days I'm using my overflow tank every single time the jet gets fuelled, doing so I maximize how much fuel the Reaction takes off with also, there is no more fuel spilled on the ground.

It has been around a year since I maiden my Reaction, I got around 25 to 30 flights on it, the owner ( me ) and the jet are very happy with the K80 ( thank you Sebastian ) which produces 19 lbs of thrust and a bit more, the Reaction is 19 lbs dry.

Since I still have my P60, now I'm in the process of collecting the info required to build an 85% Reaction this summer.

We will see.

Here's a link to my 83% size Reaction 54 I called Reaction 44+. It used a wren 44 at 10# thrust. You would have to deepen the fuse quite a bit to fit a P60 in there. It is still around today at a club members basement.

Reaction 44+ is a reality!

Dave, thank you for posting a link to your R44 thread, the info there will be very useful for the 85% build.

Tks.

I'd love to see a short video of your rudder linkage, at the control surface, working to full throws. To me, It doesn't look very good geometry wise....
Otherwise, nicely done.

Yeah, I know, my usual gang wasn't there, the other guys just go to fly.

Next time I will setup a camera on a tripod to catch my landings.

Looks like fun.

I enjoy visiting other local clubs with my R54. It is amazing how many have never seen a turbine fly.

I took my R54 to a local club with another friend that was going to maiden his new R54 and get signed off for his waiver. That club has around 40 waiver holders. I was told that my R54 was the first time they ever saw a jet do a square loop at all, let alone right on the deck. Mine and my buddies were the first R54s they ever saw. They were impressed. May have some more R54s popping up in the area.

Good to hear, I do the same, visit other clubs just for fun.

My Reaction, as far as I know is the only one in the area, haven't seen another one, the first R54 I saw was build by my dear jet friend who passed away early this year, he got to see mine flying and had good memories about his R54, that airplane is somewhere in New Mexico now together with his 85% brother that he also build.

Hello
Following the request of Cars II, here are some pictures of my plane, almost finished. I have just come out of surgery and I am recovering.
I hope to make the test flight during the month of July.
I followed the job but I didn't dare to participate because my English is not good.
Material planned:
Jetcat P60, Beotech landing gear, Horus Frsky radio.
There is still the decoration, the final installation of the turbine, and reassemble the receiver.

Pat, I wish you a speedy recovery.

That's a nice looking Reaction 54, please keep posting your progress here, your English is just fine ( good actually ) you'll be fine.

You see guys, Pat is actually a builder like a few of us here, he is in the process of building a Turbinator, I know he will do just fine with it.

Please keep posting your progress, we would like to be invited to watch your R54's maiden flight.

ps: I had no idea you were a pb bunny lover like me
