G'day Tommy,

What brakes are you using for your R54?

I got a set of CompactUniBrakes which by the picture look very similar to the ones you have in the picture.

Did you say you had a problem with them?

Will anyone have one of these at FL Jets this year? Interested to see how it does on a p60...
Who's building a R54 with a P60?

Look what the UPS guy delivered today!!!

Not happy with one of the main gear struts. It's pretty obvious that they were in a hurry...

Kudo's to Val McGowen for getting them out...

Is the reason you are unhappy because they don't line up with your print? If that is the reason, after you have had a few landings the wire will tend to set back more and get closer to center. If you don't start out forward of center then they could move too far back and interfere with the operation of the retracts.

No I just got these struts today from Robart. The right strut was not bent properly and it looks like they tried to recover from it. The folowing pictures will better show. The right strut is obviously bent but the left set is straight as an arrow:

Dang...you saw one of my landings :-).

But you may be missing the point. It's a quality issue and IMHO they missed on this...

Did anybody else get the quick disconnects for the mains?

Mine is missing too....

What's going on Robart?

Quick disconnects should have part of the air package. You guys are ahead of me - I haven't received my shipment from Robart. You will get the disconnects one way or another - will sort that out tomorrow...

Tim, you are right to expect the struts to be bent perfectly. That's what I expect too. How's the nose wheel strut look? I think they bent it differently from the drawing, but the overall length is the important thing.

BTE accessories to the "drop ship" guys went out today, Priority Mail. Dave, your brake was included with the retract accessories. Thanks for hanging in there, guys!

Bruce,

The struts in my package were perfect. The nose strut was different from the plan, BUT the wheel is in the exact same place extended and retracted. Overall, the units are VERY nice. Damn nice!.. Sorry to hear about Tim's and the shipping error for ummm...I forgot his name. BTW...what the heck are the 6 little aluminum pieces for and where do they go????

Looks like this weekend will be a busy one for me! Thanks for the Priority Mail Bruce! SHOULD be able to button up this baby by Monday morning! Heck with any kind of luck the Jet Tech tank will be here too! (pictures will be posted. I hear it will be @74oz!)

Just found out my turbine will be another week or so for the new TEMS upgrade to V2.37 with the adjustable failsafe delay and glitch counter.

I'm startin' to grin again!

The nose strut is slightly different then what you have on the plan set, but the location of the nose wheel with the gear extended still ends up at the same location. The strut is basically straight rather then the extra two bends that you show on the plans. Here's two pictures of mine. You got a CC copy of the e-mail that I sent them about my righ strut, I assume. Pictures show that there was a problem. Hopefully Eric from Robart can get it replaced. What ever you can do would be much appreciated....

Cheers

G'Day Tim,

Yes they are Unibrakes. I got them some time ago from Don's Hobbies i think.
I was not happy with the way they mounted on the plastic wheels.
So I made alluminium wheels and incorprated a brake drum to suit the unibrake.

I think I will make them again as I want them to look better. I am not a very good machinist.

Mostly I make large piles of metal shavings on the floor!!!!.

I used the original Robart Tyres and filled them with stiff foam.

Regards

Have not seen you on the exhibitor list for the Puyallup show. Will you be there?

The new version of the compact unibrake comes with a bolt on replacement for half of the Robart wheel. The machined half of the wheel is the brake drum. It's a much nicer setup.

I'm using the Phase 4 kit to bolt on to my Robart wheels. As Tommy stated it'll be a bit of a bear to get to work, but with a jig that I've made it should go okay....

Just an FYI to everyone who's been reading this string....Dreamworks R/C is now selling Turbine strap kit that will work with the RAM style turbine mount. It's cheaper then what BVM is offering. I've bought a bunch of stuff from Dreamworks and their service has been great. http://www.dreamworksrc.com/catalog/...roducts_id=528

Hey gang,
Thought you'd all like to see my R54 almost complete. Should button it up tomorrow the 23rd. Only thing left is the turbine install and the Jet Tech tank.

"Yeah Buddy!"

Look's really nice Dave!!! Great job on the covering. Me likes it.

Hopefully the weather will get better and you'll be able to take her up soon...

I got my wing and tail feathers done and now part way through building the fuselage. Really like the way that Bruce designed the balsa layout for the horizontal and vertical stab's. Made for a straight and true surface which is also pretty strong. I still have to remind myself on how big this wing is because I keep banging it against stuff in my small hobby room. Tomorrow its a full day of building and I hope to have the fuselage almost completed. It'll be cool to have all the big pieces together.

Cheers,

Yeah, I KNOW about banging it on stuff! A some point ya gotta say..enoungh is enough and stop filling the dents and get on with it! I'll complete the radio install today and then glue on the tail. Only thing left is the turbine install and the Jet Tech tank. Which reminds me...I'll email Gary and ask him how's it doing. Wing is "flight ready" except for painting the wheel wells. I'll do that, and the nose wheel well at the same time. I might be able to get a weight on the thing today too! KEEP at it...

Has anybody else noticed that the precut holes in the F4 former are quite a bit smaller then the tanks from Robart? Or is just me?
On mine I'll have to sand quite a bit out of the former just to get both the medium and small air-tanks in. Glad I caught this before having everything glued together or it would be some work...

Lets hear from you all about this.....
