RE: "3" AXIS THRUST VECTORING
this 4 vane system, at the exit of a short tail pipe/nozzle/ring added behind the engine at rear of fuselage, would give the jet roll axis control by twisting the thrust blast into a spiral either direction (clockwise or counter) with elevon/aileron functions mixed to all 4 vanes, as well as rudder (yaw- top and bottom 2 vanes) and elevator (pitch- side 2 vanes). there is nothing to keep the jet from a torque rolling or turning situation with just pitch and yaw vectoring.. but you can't tell it by watching wolfgang > [link]http://www.wheelstop.com/flying/hover_rky2.mpg[/link]....[link]http://www.wheelstop.com/flying/hover_with_yak.mpg[/link]

Yes, It will work. However, this system obstructs somewhat the gas flow and lowers the effective thrust of the turbine (you can even see the shockwaves on pic 1) . One idea I got when I saw the rookie video is to install 2 electric ducted fans concealed near the wing tips. This could turn a rookie with a 2D vectoring nozzle into a full controllable hovering machine retaining its full speed capability.
A Rookie hovering over a monokoted Extra or Sukhoi would be fun!
Best regards, Enrique

RE: "3" AXIS THRUST VECTORING
Sure! it only makes sense to make a hovering machine with a turbine if you can go fast with it..
and about hovering over monokoted extras would be great, as well as hovering over the shockflyers... that would be the revenge of the jet pilots! LOL
I visited once the rocket garden in Cape Kennedy and saw the Redstone with this same system, I believe that was Werner Von Braun who developed them, and they are still in use today, on some
missiles , like the Scud...

I guess no, as far as I know the Sidewinder uses aerodinamic force fins to steer around the missile, but the V2 ,Redstone and Scuds where guided only with the thrust vectoring nozzle pictured here.

RE: "3" AXIS THRUST VECTORING
i have seen guys use a vane/paddle system for pitch and/or yaw before that seemed to work good.. like these>.

RE: "3" AXIS THRUST VECTORING
this is about the same (yaw and pitch) set-up as what me and most guys are using and is now being offered as an option with the comp-arf rookie2 kits..

RE: "3" AXIS THRUST VECTORING
the rookie's set-up is basically a gimble ring that will let the pipe swivel left-right & up-down.. tamjets used to sell this one.. he might still..

RE: "3" AXIS THRUST VECTORING
the reason i'm thinking about the roll control set-up is while in hover (0 air-speed) my jet rolls or spins with a slight breeze.. and it is not hard to control the yaw and pitch part but you cannot control the roll at all.. so you are at the mercy of the wind at some points.. not a good feeling..
