It's funny, just today the back issue of RCJI with the write up on that arrived...I had ordered it to get the article on the Chris Golds Supermarine Swift, as I am going to build one, and I was just floored again by that Sabre. That thing was AWESOME.
Never heard of it being kitted, I did hear that he built two, one to test things out, and one to competition spec.

I saw the one at Superman a few years ago, is that the same jet? Or is this the one they were gonna fly out in California in the dry lake area? I think there were two different very large F-86's if I remember correctly, but I've slept since then, or Drank Moose Juice, or something.

I talked with Mr. Patel at Best in the West some time ago and he stated that it would be very difficult to sell as a kit because of the size, it would be extremely expensive. Bob Violett had one made a long time ago in fact I believe this was the same guy that made the one for Mr. Patel. They are both the same size but the one for BV had different locations for the hatches. it would be nice if someone could make an arf version.

Your right J:
The molds were purchased and there will be an all composite kit in one or two years

It was never kitted but I do know the molds have been bought, I just don't know if the manufacture that now owns the molds wants that info out, so in the future there will be a kit of it.

I know there were a few "kits" made up, something like 10 or so. I've recently seen two that were being geared up and have now been delivered (RTF) to the lucky new owners. Can't say any more than that (super secret squirrel promise).
From what I was told these were not really kits, per se, but rather semi-kits for experienced builders. VERY pricey. It is one awesome plane - HUGE presence.
here's a couple pics of Shailesh Patel's own F-86 from BITW 2005...keep in mind in the last pic that the shadow of the EZ-Up is about 11' square...

Im sure an ARF will never happen, and if it does there will only be one or two. I saw this bad boy once back in the day (2000-2001, can't remember exactly), Shailesh had brought it by the EBRC airshow in his trailer but didn't fly it. Looks great!!! It is basically a UAV!!

The only airplane I ever saw that I said I would buy a P-200 full retail no questions asked if I was able to get my hands on one. This particular jet has been my favorite. I saw this jet at Superman before I even owned a Turbine. Ever once in a while it sure is nice to know it's still around in one form or another. Thanks for the updated info. Beautiful!

Looks Like a nice project for Jet Model Products.
Very nice. Paired with the new AMT Netherlands 86 Lb turbine.
I Know that Tom was interesed, before the Dauntless.

Not sure Tom would want to make a model that would cause so much grief to the user in the US that they couldn't get around the AMA and all their restrictions, but who knows. It is a GREAT looking model though.
Anyone know if Shailesh will be at BITW this weekend? If so then I am packing up and going for sure!!!!

Hey Guys,
I've flown Jim Jensen's one about 20+ flights now and it's an awesome machine. It eats up some sky though, but is a great flier, no question. It's a moose to move around and transport (1-piece fuse).
There were 7 made outside of Shailesh's, and Mike, talk to Grice, he can fill you in on them, there's 1 floating around that's "available" in a kit-type form that I know of.
Jim's got the wing tanks on now and it looks really nice. There's some in the middle east, a few that'll pop up in southern Cali, and Jim's in MN that I know of.

RE: Shalesh Patel Sabre
I originally cut 10 sets of cores for the F-86, molded 10 rudders and 10 speed brake sets. So there were 10 sets of the parts I made anyway. He had told me he would never sell it. No one could afford it. Rumor has it, he did sell it. or did he? It's one of the most spectacular finished models I've ever seen. I remember the first time it was at Superman. He didn't fly it then, but it made quite a showing. You simply couldn't ignore how it looked! It looks like this size airframe is going to become the common place in the future.
It's just amazing how many rumors fly around though; Hard to tell what the truth is anymore....

Sabres in New Zealand
Hi everyone,
I saw a old post on this forum discussing the whereabouts of the Patel Sabre kits.
Two unbuilt kits were shipped to New Zealand along with 30 other models around 2012 in a container by a kiwi returning home. The models were both liberated from storage a couple of years ago by other jet fliers and both were test flown on the same day in late 2018.
I have FU260 which is the aircraft with the olive drab wings, a korean war photo recon scheme.
FU 329 is the other aircraft here, yellow and silver colours. i cant seem to post photos on the site as Im a newbie. I will when i am able.
Anyway my aircraft is now flying and going through its large model test programme here in NZ.
Im looking for information re the plane as follows:
id like to contact Joe Grice, who built it;
I need some colour documentation for the olive drab colour scheme as its really hard to find;
Id like to make contact with any member who has or is currently flying one of these aircraft, specifically re the cg location. Mine is really nose heavy at present but the cg moves back 35mm as the tanks empty so Im interested in others findings on the best set up
Look forward to any replies
Thanks and Regards
