Actually, its all Wojy's fault. We should have never let him come over to FBF. It seems those Solar Flares have followed him to this field.

Seriously though, i'd have my transmitter checked (if it was the same transmitter for all the planes) and use a scanner at the field all the time if possible.

did I tell you about how I was noticing glitching on my elev/ail control every so often on my 9Z that could not be duplicated so I sent it in to futaba, and guess what - the ribbon cables were cracked and needed to be replaced among some other things in the gimbals etc.

I have made it a habit now to send in my receivers and transmitters to get checked every winter.

Easytiger.

You could be absolutely right about the intermittant interference. A old time truckers 1 to 2KW , CB booster RF amplifer can cause just such " RF Splatter " due to mistuning the unit for maximum power. It will ALWAYS overmodulate the transmission signal causing MASSIVE splatter ALL over the RF spectrum.
Both high and low. Tough to catch or stop as talking is a sporadic time thing.

I think you had a Macho car or trucker watching you and talking to some one else.

Raw deal. Plenty of 2 KW RF AMPLIFERS in NYC area.

I have no idea what you can do about that type of stuff.

here is a discussion of interest which may be related in a way to the topic at hand .... radio interference scares the crap out of me ! I was locked out for almost 6 seconds on the last BobCat before i lost it into the trees ... day before a friends plane had a failsafe shutdown on the turbine in the same spot ... nothing has happened for several months since now ... 5.6 sec to be locked out is A LONG TIME ! especially being no more than 200 feet or so from the plane at all times ... in this case, it might be one of those things we will never know the answer or reason to ....

I hate to say it, but I think you are right on all respects, that it was a voice transmission made by someone way off frequency and way overpowered, and we will never really know what happened.

Would not do any harm to have it checked out. Actually, maybe just replace the TX. It's three years old or so. Longest I have ever used a TX without replacing it. But I don't THINK it was the problem in this case. And yep, I will be bringing the scanner along no matter what.
Those are not solar flares from Wojtek, those are Polish gas flares, from too much keilbasa and peirogies. Woj on deck! The smoking lamp is out!

Yeah, but the heli story related in that thread sounds like mine. Massive swamping from some voice radio.
